A friend panics during earthquakes and her daughter emulates her because that's what she witnessed growing up. I was with them during a strong quake and simply walked outside and calmly sat until the quake was over. I showed her daughter she can use alternative ways to respond to something no human has control over. Another friend has an earthquake app on his phone that dings when there's an earthquake anywhere in the world. The dang thing dings ALL the time. It just reminds us that the Earth is shifting and moving every minute of every day and to panic about it is a waste of unnecessary energy and anxiety.

I am halfway through the podcast but I can definitely relate to what you are saying Mel. 10 days ago there was an accidental fire from my neighbor that lives above me in a senior citizen bldg. Instincts kicked in before the smoke alarms even went off as I smelled smoke. I was remaining calm before the chaos began, because mostly female tenants carry the drama & theatrics in the bldg. I have been on workplace safety/disaster committees so I pretty much know what to do for me. All that learning & instruction has paid off on what to transfers into the personal home life experience & I know what to do. 👍

Happened this year in may. Was at work. My mom called me and told me. Am I sat down? I said yes. She goes your dad is at the hospital at the va where he works. He had a t.i.a. , which is a mini stroke. Fast forward to now he has a blockage and they have to get a cardiac cath done to remove the blockage. And it's been very hard and trying to keep a level mind and be focused at work. When your worrying about how , what when and why. But I've been meditation and Journaling and it's been helping. Thankyou for this video, Mel.

Laughing out loud Mel at your experience on the plane. I can soooo relate! I am a meditator for over fifteen years, yet I don’t think I could maintain calm like Chris. I revert to the terror of flying that I try so hard to overcome. Thanks for this episode. Good teaching points as I also have had cancer and gone through that rollercoaster again and again every time a scan or test is needed. It is good practice to realize we have no control ultimately and to rest in that in peace is the lesson and challenge. Watching our breath. Or reactions. And truly tuning into that is the zen thing. Not pushing it away. Not trying to control the breath etc.,watching it brings awareness. Watching our reactions brings awareness.

I did box breathing on a turbulent flight, it was amazing. Remember the pilot's rule is 1. Aviate (keep plane in air), 2. Navigate (stay on course), 3. Communicate. Sorry Mel, we don't want them to throw out the first two in favour of the third!

I just made a HUGE mistake. I'm sick to my stomach right now... so when I saw the title of this, it was like it was meant for me at this exact moment. The mistake I made was sending a very custom $280 art order to a different customer that had made a $100 order. I haven't moved from the kitchen floor yet. But I came on here to get something to listen to while I work on making a replacement. I make what I call bath bomb sculptures or treasure bombs, they are all bespoke and cannot be recreated. The one I accidentally swapped the shipping label of had sterling silver jewelry in it that was custom made for that particular customer. I feel like such a failure. I'm only 10 seconds in, but I just wanted to say how grateful I am this is what popped up. I feel so sick and I'm trying not to tear myself down, I'm sure this will help. Thank you, Mel.

This is a very impactful and important topic. Thank you for all of your insight. I learned a great deal and have taken away messages that I will share with my closest people, my family. I typically don't add comments to podcasts. I don't mean to sound judgy but I just can't help but feel bad for your co-host Phil. He could have left the room and you would not have noticed (maybe he should have). I was very interested to hear more about his experience and insight but you didn't give him a chance to talk. I thought it was interesting that he started to interview you. I'm also pleased to know that you had a good experience during a flight where the pilot did care enough to 1. Appolgize 2. Tell you the game plan going forward. Information is golden!

On any Canadian flight I feel like they do give you a heads up. What helped me is to learn about turbulence. Thinking of a bird on a windy day - they correct themselves like the plane. It’s scary but it’s also part of the process for the planes ✈️ I had a panic attack once because of turbulence. Then I learned about it and the next time - it was much better. I was actually helping others around me stay calm by educating them on turbulence and making them laugh a bit.

If you want to build aura, confidence and charisma, I suggest reading an e-book called 'Unveiling Your Hidden Potential'. Ever since I read this masterpiece, people started respecting me a lot more. Of course, you will need to put in some hard work while applying everything author mentions in these books, but I guarantee it's going to be worth while.
