@@XRING I agree Ray, I think there’s a huge crossover between rifle and bike aficionados. And the GSA is the king of bikes, mine is a few years older but I love it so much I haven’t even thought about getting a new one. Yeah and when you drop it the big boxer twin has already done half the work for you!

I don’t know how I missed this video when you posted it. I am glad I saw it. You always put out high quality content. I did not know about the Starlink mini. We live a few miles out of the city and had to get Starlink for our internet. Prior to moving there we had service through our cellular provider, but the cell service just isn’t very good at that particular location on that network, but with the Starlink we are able use our phones and stream shows.

Appreciate the bike content! Also thanks for letting me know about Starlink Mini, that’s gonna be a useful thing to have in the Upper peninsula of Michigan where there’s no cell service

My Harley dropped when pulling off on to gravel on side of the road to do something and had to pick it up and fortunately I knew how to lift it. I think plenty of people don't know how to do it so this is good info share, thanks. I shoot matches and often don't have cell service at them and wonder if Starlink would be good option to have coverage everywhere I go.
@XRING3 ай бұрын
Hey Chris, thanks for the comment and for watching. I figured it might be good information to have out there. As far as the Starlink, I have the luggage so I will have it with me when I ride. I am usually riding where there is no service anyway so it couldn't hurt to have it.

Thank You Sir! We had the AT&T u-verse which maxed out at 18 mb and uploading is real slow. I recall we used to enjoy streams from your porch during lockdown and uh oh someone "Netflixed" us😆😄. Although, streaming a movie is usually 3-4 mb of the capacity. Hey, I like those aggressive tires on the camper, they must be good during foul weather. I like the walking up the bike method. 👍🇺🇲
@XRING3 ай бұрын
Thanks He-Se! We go back quite a ways don’t we? The aggressive tire and the extra height make life much easier where I am usually camping. Don’t have to worry about dragging the pipes and hitch near as much as the other units.

The easiest way is called the buddy lift. In that one you use the second technique and the “buddy” lifts the back end simultaneously. 👍🏼

Hey Ray, I have to be "that guy" seeing a moto vid. I rode for 11 years, probably a couple hundred thousand miles. Until I had The Big One. I was miraculously lucky that I didn't hit any solid objects. Probably an inch in either direction would've killed me. I went between some mailboxes and a guardrail, through the woods, and off a 15' cliff. My bike was found literally in a tree. Not against a tree, IN a tree. With all that I was in a trauma center for a month, two weeks in a rehab facility, and it took 7-8 months to recover. Or as recovered as I was gonna get. With all that said, besides being very lucky in the path that I took through the woods, the biggest factor in me surviving surviving and (mostly) recovering is I was fully geared up. I had lots of bone and soft tissue damage, but not a single abrasion. And I almost certainly would've been killed or a vegetable if I wasn't wearing a helmet. Do you know PJ over in Maryville, TN? He's a friend of mine.
@XRING3 ай бұрын
Hey Tim. I hate to hear that but glad you are still around to tell it. I too was in a big one as well many years ago. It was a hit and run but they caught the guy. Was in rehab for 6 months and like you, lucky to be here. Sold all of my bikes after that but after a few years got back onto that horse again. I have met a LOT of people in the industry and might have crossed paths with him but don’t know for certain.
@bradsanders69543 ай бұрын
This sounds like one of those crashes where it gets bigger and better with each re-telling. The old "bike in a tree" thing is a dead give away.

yessssss bike content Started my Adv type riding with an 800gs, loved it, had a 1250gsa for a few years, awesome bike but found i preferred the mid size bikes for what i was doing, and on a 901 Norden atm, love it. Curious to see what you think of the 1300. Next bike will probably be a full size GS of some flavor. Would love to get my hands on a mini for awhile. Had the "mobile" starlink for awhile for use while on the boat(assume this is basically the non beta test version of that unit), and it was a total gamechanger vs any of the cell or satellite options.
@XRING3 ай бұрын
Thanks SCQT! Not too sure how this content would be received. I had the 800 years ago but it didn’t have quite the pep I wanted for long distance travels. I rode and raced the KTM’s for year but always keep going back to the big GS. I ride these big ones on trails that guys say I am crazy to take them on…..but it’s what I did. I don’t have any intentions of moving up to the 1300 anytime in the near future. I am hearing some legit feedback on the new F900GS though. Let’s see how they all pan out. The AT is also a great bike but don’t care for the DCT although it has improved greatly!

My trick was to quit taking a 500lb bike off road. Who really wants to ride something that big on dirt? I know marketing men push it hard, and many have bought into the idea that "size matters" and only real men ride a behemoth on dirt. Its good to learn how to lift a huge bike, but if it falls the wrong way and then maybe your back pops out trying to lift it? It can be a long walk out. Ive got an 890R but just bought a 690R. I can lift the 690 quickly/easily. The main thing is, its hugely less likely to tip over in the first place. Just a thought.
@XRING3 ай бұрын
For sure Brad. My days of having multiple bikes are over with though so the GS kind of does it all and can handle 2 up long riding trips and camping.

I work in the motorcycle industry and have a bunch of friends who are FAANG employees, and somehow the first I'm hearing of starlink mini is from Mr. X-Ring! I know people who use and praise Starlink's residential service, but I'd never looked close enough at how great their roaming service seems to be. Thanks for sharing! Also, strong technique on the bike lift! One more tip for viewers that sounds obvious but often gets skipped: if you're riding with friends, have them help. I'd rather help someone lift a bike 100 times than have to haul a busted up buddy out of the forest once.
@XRING3 ай бұрын
Thanks Josh. I actually mentioned the 3rd way in one of the comments. The “buddy lift” 🤣. Always the easiest way. Yeah, I really like the mini. Works great. Now I just need to find a cable that works with a small airline approved power pack. There are some cables on the market but they don’t all work for some reason. I already ordered 3 different ones.

I love satellite 🛰️ tech and communications equipment. Iridium has always been my favorite because it has always always worked for me. Inmarsat, not so much. Starlink is ok but has a good value proposition as service isn’t nearly as expensive. With that being said isn’t starlink already built into our phones with future availability to use it beyond just emergencies?
