If you're still having issues with some plugins not letting you link knobs/sliders and stuff to parameters, try clicking the dropdown arrow at the top left of your plugin, and selecting "Make Editor Thumbnail". You should hear a camera sound, and an image of your plugin becomes focused in your Browser on the left. By expanding this image, it should list all of the parameters and you can right click them and link to controller like usual. Extra handy if you don't want the full midi port being routed to your plugin, and dont want to add a new Midi port either!

I'm not sure that you can. However, as an alternative, if your midi controller can easily shift midi channels, you can use the "Receive notes from" feature on each channel in the channel rack (You can get to this option by right-clicking any channel in the channel rack). If you assign each channel rack instrument to a different midi channel, then you could control what instrument you are using via your midi controller (by switching the midi channel to the correlating instrument).

That is a good question, you can check your user manual (documentation) for your midi controller to see if it supports multiple midi channels for your knobs. If it does you will have to see if there is a way to quickly change midi channels on your midi controller. Each new channel will treat that same knob like a new one.

These videos are fantastic, thank-you so much! They've helped loads in terms of unlocking functionality and understanding. 1 problem I'm having with moving the Kontact port back to 0 is I lose the ability to map CC to the VST knobs. Is it a one or the other situation? Rack of instruments or CC control of knobs? Not a super issue as I can always load another instance of Kontact instead of a rack, just wondering if I'm missing something. I tried a few different port set ups, but I either get the Kontact plays a note issue from your video or lose CC to the VST.

@@JOVANNEMUSIC Just coming back and rereading this. If by 1024 you mean buffer length, you'll want to get that lower. The lower it is, the less latency. Your machine will need to be able to handle the lower buffer lengths though. You can also check in your audio settings and make sure that "Triple buffer" is off. Triple buffer cranks up latency and is generally meant for the mixing phase when you need extra processing time for plugins and don't mind the extra latency.

@ScaleAudio
@ScaleAudio Жыл бұрын
It sounds like you have a weird setting on somewhere. When you “link to controller”, there is a mode drop down. That mode drop-down should say hold. You may also want to check your mapping formula to make sure it is set to “input”. You could have a weird mapping formula creating the 0 to 100% change. Could also be a setting on the mpk itself causing the huge change. What macro are you linking?

I can't get multiple serums working independently through midi keyboard, even with midi outs linking each one. Is it possible to have multiple serums controlled independently?
@ScaleAudio
@ScaleAudio Жыл бұрын
If you have multiple instances of serum loaded in separate channels in your channel rack you can preview them separate that way. I could be wrong but I don’t believe serum supports multiple instances within a single channel on the channel rack so you have to load them separately. Serum is quite a large plug-in as well so this can use a lot of resources, I often bounce my serum instruments out as wav files so I don’t have to use multiple serums at once.
@JL-dk8se
@JL-dk8se Жыл бұрын

@ScaleAudio
@ScaleAudio 2 жыл бұрын
Click the multi-link generic controller option up top, move the knobs you want to reset, then turn the multi-link generic control option off. This will pop up a bunch of "link to controller" pages for each and every knob you moved. Each page should have reset values by default so you should in theory be able to just click accept over and over and reset those parameters that way. It's not necessarily all at once but it's as close as I think you can get. Hope this was helpful!

Alright I'm back. I've figured out how to change channels on my keyboard so I can have all 16 channels from one instance of Kontakt controlling without erasing or interfering with other instruments. But once I have one instance all full, how do I make it to where it controls a new instance of Kontakt separately? Cause now I ran into the problem of not being able to control anything except that first instance. But normally I'll have 3-5 or even 6 instances open with orchestral stuff. I don't want to go out and buy another keyboard. I just want to have it where I click the instance of Kontakt and it controls all 16 channels. But then I click another instance of Kontakt and it now controls all those 16 channels separately.

Great tutorials! I've just set up my Arturia Minilab :) I have one problem though. Now, that I have various channels for my instruments, does it mean every time I load new one I need to map to free channel and switch on MIDI controller? Previously, every time I opened any intrument (not mapped to any channel) I could play on it. After the mapping it does not work. TBH I'm not sure what the default setting even is - I just know mapping was entirely off. Is there a way to map some instruments but still preserve the default behavior that opened plugin shall play?
@ScaleAudio
@ScaleAudio Жыл бұрын
If you don't map the inputs and channels but just make sure you MIDI controller is on, then you can play any instrument you click on in the channel rack without having to worry about routing. If you want to link a specific channel to a specific instrument, you can right click that instrument in the channel rack and choose "Receive notes from". After clicking "Receive notes from", you can choose the MIDI device and channel you will be assigning. Once you set that device and channel, it will only be usable for that one instrument, however, all other channels will be available to be used by any other instrument at any point in time. The way you configure everything in the end is all up to you. I like to set my pads (which are programmed to channel 2) to a drum kit if I'm using one, however, I won't assign my keyboard keys (which I keep on channel 1) to anything. This way I can always play with my drums at any time, but I don't have to worry about being limited to 1 channel per instrument with my keyboard keys.
@whtrbt3824
@whtrbt3824 Жыл бұрын
Still cannot get it working :( I checked my MCC settings. It turns out that the keyboard was assigned to channel 5. I changed it to channel 1. Also changed pads from channel 10 to channel 2 (although they were working on channel 10 just fine). Then, full of hopes :), I created fresh new project from scratch to have the simplest setup possible. In the project, there were two instruments - 1st having 'Receive notes from' not set (default for new FL rack instruments), and the 2nd assigned to receive notes from channel 3. With this setup, 2nd instrument is working through channel 3 as expected. The 1st instrument, the unassigned one, is not working on any of the channels including channel 1. Even after device unplug and plug again to restore default device state it's still no go. It's like, every time I assign instrument to any of the channels, unassigned instruments stop working. Once I Unlock the 'Receive notes from' for all of the instruments on the channel rack, unassigned instruments start working again.

I finally figured out why I'm having so much trouble. I never understood that by assigning a port to the controller, you're telling it to always play the instrument on that port. So if you change from Kontakt port 1 to Kontakt port 2 on the channel rack.... The green box.... It's still going to trigger port 1 as well as port 2 that's it's currently set to. I either never heard that, or missed it, or people just never said it. I thought I had to choose a port # for the keyboard to work. Now I realized, I can just leave it without a port number and use it like I've been using it. And that I can use my smaller keyboard with unweighted keys as my drum controller and just set that to a port and leave it. I've always had them both basically Port one port too. And then whenever I get another controller I do Port 3. But finally I understand what I'm doing wrong. Cause I do classical a lot. So the freaking piccolo has always been triggered by any other instruments that have notes in the same range. Or whatever instrument is on port 1 midi channel 1, always being triggered by every other instrument. And for about 6 months I've been getting annoyed as shit why it does that. I started over at least 15 -20 templates cause it keeps doing that. I was trying to figure out at what step does it fuck up? I feel insanely relieved I've figured that shit out.
@ScaleAudio
@ScaleAudio 2 жыл бұрын
Glad it’s no longer messing with your workflow 🤙 me personally I generally keep my controllers to a port. Same in and out so my akai input is port one and output is port 1. I do this so input and outputs communicate on the same channel in case my controller communicates anything extra with FL studio. But I don’t assign midi in the back of my instruments. If I want something like your drum pad for example to play one thing specifically. I right click it in the channel rack and choose notes from in the drop down and then select that controller specifically. I really only route midi by port when I’m using something like a vocoder in the mixer. Because then you have no choice but to assign a midi input for it to work.

I have them connected to my Steinberg UR242 and then into FL Studio. I can only get one connected at a time but I used to have them both set up at the same time... Any help??
@ScaleAudio
@ScaleAudio 2 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I’m looking at photos of the UR242. Looks like you only have one in and an out. The output will be for sending info back out to a controller not receiving info into the system via the interface. So in your case you would need all the information to come through one cable if your solely going through your interface. I would suggest plugging your Casio into your akai or your akai into your Casio and seeing if you can simply send input information through to the output completely un-impeded. I’ve never daisy chained midi controllers so idk the options or standards for doing something like this. I would think it possible though that the information could be separated via channels. Midi info is separated by ports (each individual cable connection), channels (16 variations of the same data), and the data in question which is midi CC information. So I wouldn’t think it far off that your MPD could be treated as channel 2 while your Casio could be channel 1. Honestly though that’s just guessing and assuming and I’m sure every midi controller handles input information differently. But if you’ve got one input and both need to play through that single input then daisy chaining is your best option.

I don’t have west opus although I plan at some point to start doing in depth videos on 3rd party plugins. Just gotta get through the FL stuff first. As for Kontakt you just gotta learn to switch channels on your controller. The first instrument in Kontakt is channel one. The next you open up will be routed to channel 2. The 3rd channel 3. So on and so forth. I personally use midi outs and label them as each instrument. Then I use port and channel routing on that.

Fl Studio by far has some of the most awful integration w midi devices , i recently switched to Studio One and everything is smooth as butter , Important notice : Fl studio launches vst thru Fruity Wrapper so if you want to be able to omni control parameters and also have them recorded in a pattern via edit events - you need to create links in the fruity wrapper (load up any vst and scroll down to greyed out signs that say midi cc#.... ) another issue is that if you want to control said parameters on different channels you gon have to link those parameters individually by channel( ex. Midi cc 1 in fl wrapper should be manually omni linked to the same parameter but on 16 diff channels) In particular contact manages mod wheel(cc1 ) thru a parameter called modwheel MSB so if you have multiple banks in kontakt loaded and want to play one , control its mod wheel then switch to diff channel and control mod wheel there - you will need to manually link modwheelMSB to a modwheel input from said channels - now the issue here that modwheel MSB exists as a paramater in the Plugin itself not the Fruity wrapper (browse parameters) which means that when you go to a different vst those linked parameters will be controlling something else - which is a fkin mess !

@@stresistencia Hey! check you midi settings in the options dropdown. In your midi settings your controller should have a port number that it is assigned to. Make sure that your midi out ports don't match your midi port that is assigned directly to your controller. If that's the case then your controller will directly influence whatever is on the same port regardless of the midi out you have chosen. If this isn't the case then make sure when you assign your knob that you choose the omni option. That way as change your midi out the controller changes with it. I can't really tell what you have or haven't done from here however let me know if these options help!

friend, could you help me with a problem, when I open 2 omnispheres, I assign the knobs of my akai to parameters of the first, then in the second omnisphere I perform the midi out technique and it seems correct since the omnisphere (1) moves independently of the omnisphere (2) however when I move the knobs to edit the second omnisphere while recording, the previously edited omnisphere continues to be edited, I really spent hours and I can't make it work
@stresistencia
@stresistencia 2 жыл бұрын
I think the omnisphere routes the cc's internally and that's why the midi out plugin doesn't work or I did something wrong

something occurred to me to use the prog select mode of my akai to make new knobs with the akai mini editor and then I will be able to manage up to 8 omnispheres with their independent knobs

THE PERMANENT MODE OVERRIDE GENERIC LINK SIMPLY DOES NOT HAVE THE OMNI MODE SO IT IS USELESS IN THE MIXER AND IN THE SELECTION OF DIFFERENT CHANNELS
@ScaleAudio
@ScaleAudio 2 жыл бұрын
The omni mode would be sick and definitely make it more practical. You know Akai makes midi mixers which would be perfect for permanent mapping. The bigger the mixer the less I'd want to re-map every single time depending on the workflow. As for selection of different channels if you have more than one knob and you're opening more than one instrument plugin all the time why not load pre-mapped every time? The answer to the question "why not pre-map?" I feel solely depends on you and your workflow.

How to change the note of the controller when you right clicked control, it says only note c but what if I want to change the note ? You really didn’t explain the control functions too good and why it didn’t show off you seem to skip right threw saying that’s ok lol it’s not
@ScaleAudio
@ScaleAudio 2 жыл бұрын
CC is not a note. It stands for Control Change. It’s the name given to each channel of information that your midi controller uses to send info. A knob will be a CC, a pedal will be a CC, a slider will be a CC with their own numbers. There are some standards however almost every controller differs in which CC #’s they use for which knobs and sliders. Because they often change, generally sit behind the scenes, and I really tbh don’t know what numbers correlate to what main functions as a standard, idk how in depth I could get on that and be accurate.

Nope nothing is working. I could get all four... dynamics, expression, vibrato intensity and vibrato rate too all link up to the modwheel.... but i wanted both vibrato intensity and rate on the pitch bend. Haven't been able to link anything since. I've gone through everything... i don't know what the problem is. Even when i click on a generator in the side list.... and click the instance of kontakt and maunally asign it, it doesn't work. It ends up linking to one of the mic positions.... and i never even go on that tab.

Well I know pitch bend has a way higher resolution than regular midi. I believe kontakts max resolution is like 127 while pitch bend is closer to 8 thousand. Can you link your pitch bend to a knob in FL Studios Midi Out Plugin?

I don't know if it's my program or what but linking my mod wheel does not fucking work all the time. It wil link to something, normally the wrong thing. And never link again, but other things willlink just fine. Also, one day i linked expression and dynamics to the modwheel, and vibrato and vibrato intensity to the pitch bend wheel... Then something happened and it won't link to two things again, even with remove conflicts off. I don't know what the hell is wrong, but it's annoying the shit out of me.

@@ScaleAudio I saw a guy talk about combining expression and dynamics to the mod wheel, and I thought doing the same with vibrato and the rate of vibrato would be good too. In symphony series instruments.

@@RockBoBsteRMusic Interesting. If you using FL Studio check to see that you are not sending a master sync back to the midi controller. If you go to Input settings you should see a little master sync button under the output section. I doubt this would be the issue but it could be. Make sure your output port matches your input port. If it already does match however see if turning your output port off fixes anything. Sometimes pressing refresh device list on the far bottom left of the same window will help fix funky communications. I'd recommend clicking the refresh button after each of these changes. These are far off chances but the reasons I'm going to these is because it sounds like a communication error between the way fl studio and your contoller are transmitting information. If you don't have any presets saved on your keyboard you care about hold the +/- buttons on power up to do a full factory reset which I'm not sure would help but worth a shot right. It's hard to say your issue without really being there.

Check the port, channel, and CC of your successful connection and manually replicate it in another channel and see if that works. Some plugins also act funny when it comes to midi so if it worked correctly on one plugin it might not on another.
