How to live aboard your ship in Star Citizen

How do you equip your ship with the gear required to live on board? How do you get a ground vehicle? How do you bed log? Short, no cuts video to show you how!

you have to know the game and know what not to do to stay alive. I backed the game nearly 10 years ago when it was just a website and a promotional video. i messed around with the hanger module in those days when it was just a way to look at your pledge ship... but then forgot about the game till last month when youtube showed me a video. I have been fully immersed since then. this game is amazing already even with the glitches and poor performance. I cant wait to see what else we have in store.

Very nice video. I just have a question regarding to the weapon racks. For example those from the Cutless. Are they only saved after logging out inside the bed and / or stashing my ship via Terminal? Because we had situations, where these weapon racks got fully empty after changing a server if i remember correctly. So i guess the persistancy ends with server changes and claiming situations?

You must store the ship properly for them to persist. Either bed logging, or storing in a hangar. If the server crashes, or if you just log out without storing properly, the ship will need to be claimed. Server meshing is coming to fix this, but for now better safe than sorry.

Its gonna be alot easier to outfit a ship with stuff once 3.23 rolls around. The persistent hangers are a huge game changer. I too will normally pick a ship and live out of it for weeks at a time. Currently its been the reclaimer. So far I've been living out of the same ship for a month without having to reclaim it or losing it to anything. In between salvage runs Ill land at the mining facilities to stock back up on food and extra armor. Really though the ideal ship for all of this is the carrack, since it acts as a forward spawn point it really is the only ship that can make the most use out of a stocked up ship. I treat it like a carrier, keep the shuttle loaded on it and it will generally stay in orbit while I take teh shuttle down places like bunkers or what not. Keep the shuttle, a ROC and an ursa loaded on it. Real nice if you die having that forward spawn point and a bunch of gear waiting for you to re-equip immediately. Im hoping with engineering gameplay and as the game continues to develop losing a ship entirely is going to be a more rare thing and it will be more about upkeep on your current ship. I really like the idea of not having to go back to civilization until my ship is just bursting with stuff to sell

Agreed 100%. When it's just me or a small crew, Corsair is my go to (can't wait until we can lock in names for every ship because I don't want to just say Corsair anymore). When we are leaving for a week or so, my Carrack the Wild Endeavour is my go to, especially once bed logging is back for crew. Longer engagements and we have a Polaris on the way.

Ground vehicles 100% have functionality. They are great to get closer to bunkers that are primed to shoot at you in your ship. Land, take your ground vehicle - use the terrain to mask you approach. TURRETS WILL STILL TARGET YOUR GROUND VEHICLE - but they are a lot easier to approach bunkers with than ships.

Everytime i think about doing a life aboard thing, the game shows me why i shouldn't haha..like last night i was doing cargo trading on my freelancer max and after selling a bunch of cargo i bought one more load and headed somewhere to sell it but the station showed my ship had no cargo even tho i checked it and it was full. The crates couldn't be moved either so i couldnt empty them out or add anything else. It was rough

I'm thinking to have a C8R Pisces and either my PTV, Cyclone TR URSA Rover or 85X parked in my C2? The C2 has lots of personal storage so a container may not be needed? I leave plenty of cloths and gear stored at the space stations and cities (except Lorville). I also have some cloths and gear aboard my ships (if there's room) and fancy stuff (CIG gifts, undersuits, armor, etc... ) will eventually be stored in my personal hangar, while living aboard my C2, if not traveling.

Unfortunately I always seem to be in the 10% of 30k and constantly losing everything. Always end up having to claim as ship status as unknown even upto 24hrs later. Very frustrating and makes any progress pretty much Impossible.

I have had that happen a few times as well. As far as making progress, one thing I do is that even through I tend to live on my ships as well, I will regularly stop by my home station to unload extra and/or valuable inventory. Like if I find a set of Inquisitor Base armor. Better believe I'm heading to my home port to put that in what I call "long term" storage.

Most definitely. People will stock up on essentials and store them all in hanger so they don't have to travel to stores all the time

Just want to clearly understand. when you say loose your ship do you mean completely loosing it as in you don't even have it listed in your ship terminal list? Because i have seen people use the term "loosing" your ship when they had to claim Insurance claim on it it.

We use the term "loosing" to describe when we have to file an insurance claim on your ship. So if your ship was destroyed in combat, you crashed into an astroid, you logged out without storing or being on your ship... just a few examples of "loosing" your ship. Great question!!

This. Losing your ship means it exploding or the game making you claim it due to a bug.

Cutter is solid. Corsair is also good for this, especially when crew bed logging returns. Reclaimer would be tough to live on solo, and no very functional, but again once crew logging is back 8 people could live there nicely.

1. At the moment I am referring to leaving a station together for play sessions, which I do every day. 2. Crew bedlogging has only been shut off since 3.18, and we have been assured it will be returning. It’s a key feature of the game.

I'll be optimistic here. This game, with the basic features and polish, will likely be done in the next year or so. It will be live service, so new features and systems will roll out as patches over many, many years (think GTA Online). The core features etc I think will be done before end of 2025 now that S42 is complete. Just a prediction. 12 years is pretty standard dev time for a AAA title, and we are getting 2.

PERSONAL Inventory isnt going away. When you hit “I” to see what’s on yourself. LOCAL inventory, for stations and ships, is 100% going away at time of posting. This could change of course, but two separate things.

the urgency i want is perma ship death. pricing will obviously have to be right economy wise but it should be plenty doable. Eve does it and literally NO ONE uses rookie ships. Everyone can buy a player made frigate with no effort. Like for example if our current missions still pay out like they are, just make aurora's and mustangs purchasable for ~20k each. and then make weapons cost somewhere between what they do now and more than those ships cost. To use Eve as an example again, a t1 frigate like the rifter will run someone ~400k isk. if you want to use t1 guns it'll cost you a few more thousand isk. But if you want to use t2 guns its about a million isk per gun. As long as the hulls are a cheap as 1 mission can pay out, no one will ever just be shipless even brand spanking new. People will be very careful about how they fly when a crash could mean that ships gone forever.

Not something I think will happen in SC, but I see what you’re thinking. From what they’ve said, big frigates will always be billions, take years to save for, and require a larger crew to operate. Solo people will be in solo ships. Eve is very very different.

@@BVLDERDVSH "frigate" is also the smallest ship in eve, so ignore the ship classes here. an eve frigate would be = to like an arrow. But I'm actually pretty sure (like 85% ) that is their intention or life time insurance wouldn't be a thing. They've already talked about making lists of building materials which will be necessary for manual ship repairs. That's only 1 step away from a player built ship. And there have been other conversations around living off grid that imply being able to build your own stuff off of things you mine. There's actually quite a bit that implies perma ship death. There would be no reason for most players to want to run a crucible for instance and fix ships if its just as easy to blow it up and respawn it on a 15 minutes timer for instance. They care alot about consequences here and without things like perma ship death there will be alot less. But with it, it opens up like 5 job loops and alot more value to how ppl play.
