Something I'm surprised to not see mentioned is that the claim at 14:03, if true, would absolutely have the potential to increase the song's reach. Demonetization is a massive deal for content creators where video revenue is one of their primary sources of income. By removing the threat of demonetization for using a song, it does in fact encourage content creators to use that song over other songs. And the more creators that use a song, the more people get exposed to it.
@mariasolenardelli37453 күн бұрын
You wouldn't know if you'd get copyright striked for it or not until you post the video tho. And even then it can take weeks or months. You'd probably just think you've gotten lucky. Not Like Us is not going to be found on a "copyright free music" site, or list or whatever, so you literally have no way of finding out
@maromania73 күн бұрын
Yeah thing is what they say has little to do with whether songs get flagged. Louie Zhong keeps nearly his entire library on "with attribution" copyright and people get flagged constantly with false claims anyway no matter how hard he fights youtube. Content creators know damn well to avoid popular songs unless you're willing to risk demonitization, no matter what they say. Especially since if they change their mind in 2 years, they're suddenly going to lose thier channel amidst 20 sudden copyright strikes.

Also, there ARE bots in the music industry (ask drake, he knows all too well, as many Kendrick hate accounts are bots that ONLY post Kendrick hate and were created around the same time this year, also the hate doesn’t always make sense) but anyway, UMG is not gonna hire some random KID to do the work. Kendrick could sue Drake for defamation as well but it doesn't cancel anything out... each suit would have to be assessed on it's individual merits. Drake's issue (if he was actually stupid enough to try suing Kendrick) is that anything he tried to use to prove defamation could equally be used to prove it wasn't... if he claimed rap lyrics were defamation then Lamar could use Drake's own lyrics that he "likes them young" as evidence why he believed he was a creep. But if Drake tries to say he was just 'playing a persona' then Kendrick can claim the same thing. It's ridiculous really.

I think another thing in regards to Drake being called a pedo by Kendrick is the fact that a LOT of people already saw him as one. The stuff about him getting close with girls before they were 18, his "close friendship" with Millie Bobby Brown, etcetc, where all known BEFORE Not Like Us was released and had a ton of people looking down on Drake for such already. Not Like Us might have brought more attention to the claims/rumours, especially because it spread far out from the normal rap circles for music listeners, but even I knew about the allegations of Drake being a creep before the song was out (and I didn't even know there was a beef) and I'm not a Drake, Kendrick, or rap fan in general. Perhaps that could be used as a sort of defence if Drake does attempt to claim defamation? Not that I know much of the law, but it was something a looooot of people already regarded as true or suspected Drake of, prior to everything. This, of course, has little to do with his claims against UMG, but it seems dumb when he was also going around calling Kendrick a wifebeater/cheater or whatnot in one of his own diss tracks. It really comes off as salt that a diss against him has become THE song to listen to.

Kendrick didn't say anything we didn't already know, except maybe the secret child, but I could have sworn I'd read somewhere that those accusations were behind Drake writing "I'm upset", so who knows
@12thtime3 күн бұрын
Not only that, but since malicious intent is required, the defense doesn't need to prove Drake is a pedophile, it only needs to show it had reason to believe he was a pedophile. So if this goes to trial they will bring up every single claim and report against him and air it in open court, which will be reported in the media. Even if he successfully proves all the claims as bogus, it will still be days or weeks of coverage on the old pedophile reports and tons of new headlines containing both the words "Drake" and "pedophile". This maneuver will do nothing to his image but higlight the pedophile angle while making him appear as a whiny brat who is suing because he started possibly the famous rap battle battle of all time and is mad that he go beat down so badly.
@OkItsJustSean2 күн бұрын

Like someone could think that their decision to allow monetizing a specific song would encourage that song to be chosen over other song options. Whether or not the creators of these videos know that that song is available for usage without it harming their videos monetization.

@@kyronbrown2092 thats not true not like us was a surprise drop and it came after mtg if anything people would have been waiting for a drake drop not a kendrick drop

@bsshsnsjs it was a victory lap song made as a celebration to sing along with. It was only a surprise to people that don't pay attention.

@@kyronbrown2092 be fr, it was a surprise drop kendrick didn’t win after mtg, mtg was built on lies. no promo and no foreshadowing = surprise drop. by your logic GNX was not a surprise drop because it’s obvious kendrick was gonna drop an album

I can’t understand Drake’s decision to move forward with this. My theory is that he’s trying to put it in people’s brains that this was an industry-coordinated attack, and that he doesn’t actually care about winning the suit. Like maybe it’s about optics. But if that is his big plan he miscalculated. Whatever his motivation, this isn’t a good look for Drake, which follows a series of not good looks

I honestly think his ego just can’t handle having Kendrick stomp on some of his records. Drake is *obsessed* with numbers.
