Thanks again for another great video. I will be sharing this with several people I know. As a former chef in everything from a café, to a steakhouse, a hospital, and even a 5 star James Beard restaurant, I know how much salt is used in restaurant food. Most people don’t realize what goes into the preparation of restaurant food to keep the patrons coming back (mostly fat and salt). I decided to study nutrition when I was told by my doctor that I had high blood pressure (I went to my my doctor because I was experiencing hypertensive crisis). In addition, my visit resulted in the diagnosis of pre-diabetes and extremely elevated cholesterol levels, which were most likely due to the foods I was cooking and eating. Not wanting to take medications, my nutrition path led me to a whole food, plant based lifestyle that is low in sodium, fat, and refined sugars. It only took 3 months to reverse all of my condition, and I never needed medication. I understand that medication is necessary for some, but the power of a healthy plant based diet can’t be overstated. After 7 years on a plant-based diet, I still have healthy blood pressure along with very low cholesterol levels and healthy blood glucose levels.

Hi Dr I appreciate your videos. My question is how do we eat a plant based diet when we do not want to lose weight. Nor loose but actually increase muscle tone.

Dr Marbas, your timing on this is great. You can really open a can of worms when you ask for questions. lol. I have some questions for our next telehealth appointment. Maybe these are questions your followers or other patients have as well. Q - in times of stress is it adrenaline that increases your blood pressure, and if so, what is actually happening? How does adrenaline do that? Q - If you’ve been on a WFPB diet and you’re BP is low enough to stop the BP meds, how many times per day (initially) should you check your BP to be certain it isn’t rising to an unsafe level? Q - What should BP be immediately following an intense cardio workout? Should only the systolic increase? What should the diastolic do? Can systolic reach an unsafe level? Q - Why does BP have drastic swings throughout the day. If it is low or normal at some points during the day and very high at others (non exercise related) which number best reflects what is really happening? How do you know which number to consider when starting or stopping meds? Q - Can BP be taken lying down. When in the hospital it is often taken in a lying position, but instructions specify a sitting position. What is the difference and why? Q - Dr Michael Gregor has stated that miso, although it reads as having a high sodium level, is not the same as other sodium and studies have shown that it does not affect BP the same way. What are your thought on this? Q - When is the best time of day to take BP medication and why? Thank you for all you do Dr Marbas!

Oh my...I think these questions are worthy of another video!

@@DrLaurieMarbas I'd love to hear the answers to these questions, too, if you have time. I'm currently on four medications to keep my BP around normal levels. I am transitioning to a fully plant-based diet (vegan this month, plant-based next month, etc.) but I do worry about the kind of impact it will have on my medications (and might already be having). I don't want to plunge my BP too low too fast. I am going slowly, given that it is not as easy as usual to see my GP on a regular basis thanks to Covid lockdown restrictions. We can have phone calls no problem but I don't feel I can pop down to the surgery every few days for him to adjust my medications.

Can a 3.5 cm dilated ascending aorta be reversed?
@DrLaurieMarbas2 жыл бұрын
Hi Allison, those cannot be reversed and require surgery typically once past a certain size.
