Eating oranges and strawberries daily relaxes me. I take garlic 2000mg, coq10, fish oil, exercise 3 times per week for 30 minutes. I eat meat in moderation. No sugar. I use monk fruit as a sweetener. I seen benefits when eat lots of veggies more than fruit and meat daily.

Late 60s, been on BP meds for 20 years. Didn't make any overall changes besides meds until 2 years ago. Always fairly fit and active but exercising more never seemed to make much difference long term. Went to a plant based diet 2 years ago and within 6 months was able to discontinue all 3 BP meds. For me it was more about diet than exercise. I feel 10 years younger and much more energy

I was a regular gym goer with a personal trainer. I was able to leg press 16 + 16 reps of 400kg on the 45 degree press, so I was pretty good for a 56yo. 1 hour on the rowing machine at heart rate of 170, plus other fit classes, spin classes, etc. Didn't do a thing for my blood pressure, so exercise does not always help, and I know plenty of people who won't walk 100 yards yet don't have hypertension.

That's the only thing I can think of. I noticed when even even did some small changes in my diet, my blood pressure git normal. Mine wasn't extremely high but it was a little over the norm.

I took a class held by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi on meditation. I do it regularly insilence or while listening to music. While hospitalized recently I could lower my blood pressure I demand while hooked up to the machine. while everyone in my family has high blood presure and take medications, I average 120/70. I have been able to go as low as 115/62. I have found however that salt can really raise your numbers to scary levels. One day I ate a small can of nuts in lieu of meals; the next day my blood pressure was 190/86. Three days later without salted nuts it returned to 120/78.

To those with sleep issues I will relate my experience. After visiting an ENT doctor I was told I had an extremely deviated septum, something millions of people have and don’t even realize. I have probably had mine all my life. Anyway I had simple septoplasty surgery and no longer need breath right strips anymore, can fall asleep on my back, have much deeper sleep and my blood pressure has dropped and is more manageable. Not sure if there is a direct link between bp and septoplasty, but in my case I can breathe and smell as never before. :)

I have always been amazed at the idea/theory that everyone MUST have the exact same BP to be healthy regardless of height, weight, age, diet, exercise levels, etc. There must be some underlying reason, what could it be? Maybe getting as many people on BP meds and keeping them on them for as long as possible, regardless whether they help or not. Mostly not.

One area of my overall health that I have a difficult time improving is sleep. On nights when my sleep suffers, I notice that my BP is consistently higher the next day. Blood pressure typically follows a natural daily pattern known as circadian rhythms, which means it can be higher in the morning (AM) and lower in the evening (PM). This pattern is due to various physiological factors: Morning Surge: Many people experience what's known as the "morning surge" in blood pressure. This is when blood pressure tends to rise in the early morning, often just before waking up. This is partly influenced by the body's natural awakening process and the release of hormones like cortisol. The surge is a response to the body preparing for increased physical activity and alertness during the day. Diurnal Variation: Blood pressure naturally fluctuates throughout the day, with readings being lower during the evening and night while you're at rest. This is considered a diurnal variation and is influenced by the body's sleep-wake cycle and daily activities. Physical Activity and Stress: Daytime activities, such as work, exercise, and stress, can lead to temporary increases in blood pressure. These activities are typically more common during the daytime, contributing to higher blood pressure in the morning and daytime hours. It's important to note that not everyone follows this pattern precisely, as individual variations exist. Some people may have different blood pressure patterns, and certain health conditions or medications can also influence these patterns. Additionally, there can be situations where blood pressure is higher in the evening or at night for some individuals.

I think the trickiest thing people need to realize is your BP varies WILDLY day to day, hour by hour. The best way to know what your REAL blood pressure is to take it at home 3 times a day at the same time using a calibrated machine. There are so many on unnecessary meds from high readings in the office. If I only went by a single reading at the doctor's office, I'd be mislead because my pressure is always sky high at the office due to anxiety about having it tested....but much lower when relaxed at home.
@sonyas7422
@sonyas7422 Жыл бұрын
I agree with you totally. Blood pressure could also be up because of an illness/issue that you're at the doctors office to get resolved. My BP and HR were up yesterday at doctor because I had developed a sun rash due to a side effect from the BP med and probably anxious too to see what my reading was. The day before I felt really good at home and my HR was good. Doctor switched my medication, but I was on the lowest dose anyways so hopeful to get off of it with doing all these on the video list. I just came back from a 15 minute morning walk to start. The medication that had the side effect was Hydrochlorothiazide. I was taking a combo Lisinopril/Hydrochlorothiazide (1/2 dose of 12.5mg pill). Now on 10mg of Lisinopril only.

Dr John, your videos are so helpful. I wish there were more Drs like you. I have labile hypertension, hyperadrenergic dysautonomia. Yesterday, I had an Abdominal US and have greater than 70% stenosis in the SMA and increased velocity in the IMA. Could this be the cause of my unstable BP? I am on 0.1mg Clonodine patch to try and control it. Benicar stopped working.
@ThinkYourHealth
@ThinkYourHealth 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Mary for your kind words. The majority of cases of chronic mesenteric ischemia ( which just means decreased blood flow in your SMA) are caused by atherosclerotic narrowing of the origins of the celiac or superior mesenteric arteries . In your case it is the latter.Atherosclerosis of the mesenteric vessels is fairly common.The velocity you describe is that the IMA, which is situated inches below the SMA, means your SMA has to "do more work" as less blood is flowing through the SMA.The cause of the SMA stenosis is most likely atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a condition in which fatty deposits called "plaques" build up inside the arteries in the body.Plaques can get too big and reduce blood flow to certain body parts . This can cause symptoms (such as pain) in the part of the body that is not getting enough blood.Yes, indirectly the SMA stenosis is a contributing factor to your high blood pressure, but the MAIN culprit is atherosclerosis.The way is combat this is what I explained in the video using all the different non-pharmacological ways.Like I said it is not easy, but you have to be consistent and persistent.Obviously, as you are on a clonidine it tells me you must have tried other variations& combinations of blood pressure medications.Given that you have hyperadrenergic dysautonomia take time when getting up and sudden movements.Good luck.

I quit everything and started doing yoga and living a healthy lifestyle, and because of that, I was able to control my blood pressure. I started skipping my medicine, and finally I stopped taking it as my blood pressure was very low after taking medicine (90/67). It has been more than a month since I stopped taking medicine, and most of the time my pressure in the evening is 130/85 and in the morning it is 110/78.
