Well, this was an appropriate video for me. I'm building my first bolt action and checking videos for best lube recommendations. Oddly enough, I'm actually in southwest Oklahoma, so I know of this Oklahoma Moon Dust that is spoken about here very well 🤣I'll use these tips for my first lubrication today and get out to test my rifle!! One day I'll get some Alpha Munitions brass also, they were out of stock of the 6 Creedmoor when I was brass shopping a few weeks ago. I'll use my Lapua for now and get some of theirs in the future!! Have a good one folks.

@CarryTrainer Howdy! Figure you deserve the official Oklahoma greeting 🤣 I'm attempting to film my whole process getting this bolt action put together so I can share on my growing little channel. Should turn out pretty nice. Lots of high quality components going into this! I will be finishing my assembly video with greasing my bolt and showing the tips from this video!! I am using Lucas grease (what I could obtain locally) but maybe I can try some of your stuff out and do a comparison video in the future! I'm always looking to try different things to find the best performing products that I can recommend to my viewers!! I'll have to get some of your lubes in hand and give them a try! Hope you have a great weekend, Mickey (hope I spelled that right?)

Thank I'm new to bolt actions and now I see why I had to repair the bolt early in use on my Mossberg MVP .308

What would cause my bolt to be hard to open after firing around it's a Savage model 110 somebody told me use too much oil when I clean the rifle and it loaded up in the chamber cause too much pressure what can you tell me
@Chevsilverado Жыл бұрын
It wouldn’t be from too much lube unless your lube is REALLY dirty and thick. Even then it wouldn’t only be after you fire. You would be looking at some burr, tolerance issue, ammo you’re using is faulty and the head of the casing is getting stuck in the barrel, or most likely just it could also be a head spacing issue. I would bet on a head spacing issue since burrs are pretty uncommon, but the best thing to do is take it to a gunsmith and have them check out the rifle. They’ll check headspacing and inspect for burrs. Before you do that, give the rifle a really good clean around the chamber just to make sure it’s not some gunk. Use a 12 gauge brass brush and solvent and scrub the chamber. Also, these savages have pretty hard bolt lifts from the cock on open design and short handle, and that won’t help the issue either. Once you get it inspected and the main issue fixed I recommend doing some polishing of the bolt and putting a bolt lift kit in to get it functioning nice and smooth. I put some medium polishing compound on my bolt, cycled it a few hundred times, then used a dremel and polish to polish up the cocking surfaces, then cleaned everything very well and relubricated it. That made a large difference in the bolt open difficulty and it actions smooth as butter. Be careful to not get too much polish on the bolt head lugs and inside the locking lugs of the chamber, and make sure you clean the inside of the chamber and lugs very well before using to remove polish.

never lube the lugs. tactinurds
@Chevsilverado Жыл бұрын
I’ve seen many experienced gunsmiths recommend greasing the lugs. It ensures they don’t wear down and fuck up the head spacing and it also ensures a consistent lug fit into the gun. Never seen an issue with lubricated lugs but I’ve seen many worn lug issues. Lube everything well except the bolt face and firing pin.

Yea some grease on the bolt face, it’s gonna blow up the rifle. Seen it plenty of times...
