My Aventon Level 2 allows me to crank the peddals backwards without the use of an allen key and the chain moves. Thanks for sharing, appearenetly all ebikes are not created equally...

That is a great feature! I think maybe it is ebikes that have a central motor that require this and not those with a rear hub motor.

Good stuff, Jase. I see you drip the lube on top of the top/outside of the chain. I was taught by former Dunedin R&R Sport bike guru Banga Maultby to drip it on to the bottom/ inside of the chain, as he reckoned it got into the chain more thoroughly. Or is it either or?

@@jaselikesbikes Thanks Jase. And thanks for the tip on using an allen key to make the chain go round while lubing it. I guess I'd get the same result using a single allen key? BTW At present I lube my Scott e-Spark e-bike's chain before each ride now. It had started skipping after about 5000km and I think I'm buying time with the superlubing.

@@jonnychas1 yes a single Al,len key will do the same job. Not bad kms out of one chain on an ebike but yes degreading every few rides and lubing helps.

Great video. How often should you lube the chain?

Good question. I personally give my chain a wipe down after every ride and oil every 2-3rides and give the drivetrain a decent clean about every 4-5 rides. This all depends on conditions etc. I do it to enjoy a longer life out of my drivetrain and so that I don’t lose power from it, I need every Watt I can get.

I always been told to oil inside of the chain? but oiling on the top I'm sure it will feed the oil down?

Yes I did ask Louis that question myself after he did it, I guess it is a preference but it is probably less messy the way he did it.

How do you remove the Allen key after it jams against the crank arm?

I find that if I turn the cranks in the opposite direction a very small gap apperas so that you can remove the Allen Key.

Yes it depemds on the hex. Just give it a little tap and it normally comes out.

Where can you purchase the wheel stand that your rear wheel is on?

Hi John. This one is a specialized bike stand. You might be able to get something similar by doing a Google search or I do know sometimes the bike shop sells them off when they are changing types so contact you local dealer.

what if my chainring has a centerlock?,there is no bolts

Good question. You can put a long object / stick which can wedge between the frame and the crank, this willstop the crank turning and act the same way as the allen key.
