Love the back-pedal hex key hack. Doesn't work on a Bosch though, but you could probably use a cable-tie velcro on those..... either way, if you ride a bike just get a collapsible stand for $50. A Scorpion Stand works too if you have Shimano and takes up very little space .

Ty for tips. I might of damage my new chain. I suspected it was dry and only had CLP gun oil to use. Now a type of gritty grim is seen.
@embn Жыл бұрын
If you thoroughly clean and degrease your chain, you should be able to inspect the links and see if there's any damage there. Some oils can be quite sticky and attract dirt and grime, but as long as it hasn't caused any damage to the components of the chain, simply cleaning, degreasing and then lubing your chain will do the trick.

It is interesting. External batteries are usually ugly, but I really like what that Canyon looks like too.... Sure I like to look at my internal battery bike, but once you are on it, I don't see my Haibike's ugly external battery and it takes 2 seconds to swap, compared to my Pivot's stupid 7 screw mount.

I use my air compressor set at just 50 psi to dry off the chain after degreasing and rinsing it before lubing, and also my cassette as it’s SRAM one so no gaps to blow out the grease. I also use it to blow away the excess water around the motor and around the connectors being careful not to use it around lubed parts or where it can just push the muck further into the bike. What does everyone think good or bad idea?

By "top" of the chain, do you mean the outside? As long as the rollers get lubed, I don't see how it would matter whether you apply the lube to the top or bottom because it will run down and coat every part of the inside, especially if you're turning the cranks while doing so.

Chain wax suspended in solvent still does not seem to have caught on? I have been applying Rock and Roll blue on my turbo levo from new and listen to this. After 1 year of riding every couple of days - the chain still measures as new. No wear or 'stretch' ZERO ! I am an engineer... and am amazed. The Specialised shop doing the one year checks/service were surprised. No dregreasing, just apply the liquid and wipe off, about once a month. I dont understand why long term tests have not been done to make this common knowledge. The wax must float inside the links with the solvent carrier when it is applyed and stay in there effectively. I did not even bother to remove the oil off the chain when new, just dosed it with the R and R blue. Best part is the chain is clean! I know this sounds like and advertisement but I am not affiliated with R and R at all. Just wanted to pass on my findings so far. Cliff

My Specialized Levo 9/2019 eats chains. My first chain, the original, was 75% after 750 km. I have replaced this for a Shimano 901 XTR chain this was 75% after 1250 km. I have now mounted my third chain, but now the front sprocket is apparently worn, because the chain does not release well under tension. I lubricate my chain every ride and degrease every third ride. I use special PTFE oil from Shimano dry weather. I always ride in dry conditions and have climbed about 60.000 altitude meters during 2000 km. Are there other people with the same issue? Before this I had 2 x a Cube bike with Bosch engine and here the wear was about 500 km better!!!!!

Aren't rollers suport to spin? Then how would lubing the inside/outside count? Why would I want to lube the actual gears? My understanding is that the rollers contact the teeth & inter-teeth area and they pivot around the inside pin where the lube should be... Myself I apply on the outside, pedal turn the chain a bunch of full rotations then do a quick wipe with a rag to get the excess that did not get pulled inside the rollers...
@TheWebstaff4 жыл бұрын
What you want is the parts that have friction to one another to be lubed. Then you want to keep the dirt out and the lube in. Which is why motorbike chains have seals.. X vs O for example. And why when I lube my chain I like to take it off and soak it so the oil has time to get in behind the seals.. And then I just give it a quick spray over now and again in between soaks to keep the rust of, roller faces oiled. That's also what I've gone back to on my push bikes too.
@bryancampbell25774 жыл бұрын
Yep, I agree with you there. Top or bottom shouldn't matter, the lube will coat the whole roller by itself
@GordonGrams4 жыл бұрын
The rollers job is to roll, so why do you insist on lubing the inside of the chain? Using an Allen key to pedal backwards works ok, but then there's a lot of motor drag on the Turbo Levo and you easily get chain hop and can't shift. I use a stand that only lifts the back wheel a few inches off the ground and pedal forward. After cleaning the chain with a brush and rag I apply a good dose of Finish Line Dry lube on top of the chain while shifting through all the gears so the cassette gets lubed as well. After about 5 minutes or so it's dry and I then apply a light dose of Squirt wax lube and let it dry overnight. My chain stays really clean even in dusty conditions. I wash the dust off with a plain water hose at a gas station on the way home, so it's completely dry before I lube it again. In the wet and winter weather I use wet lube of course, but I lube the top of the roller just the same. I easily get 5-6000 kms on a chain and change the whole drive train when the sprocket teeth start to hook and suck the chain. I clean and lube the chain after every ride, even if it's only 20kms. The biggest cause of short chain life? I see a lot of guys busting chains because they don't back off the power enough when shifting.

@@TheWebstaff I commute in really dirty, wet, sandy roads and this winter, cleaning/lubing my chain was turning into a part time job. I switched to parafin wax/oil and it's brilliant! I have a kmc x series ept chain with quick link so it's easy to take off. I ride about 250km a week and lube the chain on the weekend and once during the week. I pull the chain off, put it in a pot and rinse it off with boiling water. I keep a slow cooker with wax in it all the time so i plug that in and it's melted in about an hour and while it's warming up, i hang the chain to dry. When the wax is melted, i put the chain in for about 15 mins then take it out and hang it to cool. Other than the heating up, it's about 10 mins of my time and you never get dirty/greasy. You can also put ptfe (teflon) in the was for better lubrication. You can also melt some of the wax into xylene or alcohol and put that in a squirt bottle in case you need some additional lube while out.

Yeah it‘s a bit annoying sometimes, but without making the sponsors happy we would not only get rid of the annoying (part of the) videos but the channel alltogether. So yeah i donget annoyed as well, but I consider it to be a necessity to get the good bits.

Muc off had perfect product for chain- mucoff94 WITF PTFE but they resign from ptfe (they promo as a no ptfe is environment friendly- what a bullshit) and now you have to buy special oil to lube chain. Special oil is very sticky for grime soo you have to buy degreaser. In that way muc off sale 3 product instead of 1. Solvation? Gt85😁
