HOW TO: M278 Replacing Camshaft Position Magnet

Here i show you how to easy renew the 4 Camshaft Position Magnets.
Car: CLS C218, 500
Part Number: 4x A276 156 07 90
Tools:
-8mm Nut (Screws Magnets, Holdings at the Block)
-7mm Nut (Rings)
-8mm (Ratchet Wrench)
-various extension and small elbow (Air Pipe)
-small slotted screwdriver (Plugs)
-Oil Filter Tool
-Silikonsprray (no must have)
-some Brake Cleaner for the Finish

Hi, never. Only if you get any problems with timing or noises when starting the engine. This is the cheapest repair to try then.

Thank you, there was a tapping noise at start up. I tried first with this repair. But at the end the Proble was a camshaft adjuster. Regards

Why did you replace them ? Were they leaking ? I was told they don’t leak. It’s the cam sensors that leak.

Is that wrench for torque bolts or just a regular 12 point?. My magnets are leaking oil bad

They're E torx box wrenches.

@@SDMF5000 I just used a regular 12 point ratcheting wrench. Never knew they made Etorx wrenches though. May have to get me a set

On the passenger side, I have problem to remove the pipe. The clamp on the top is easy but I can't seem to locate the screw/bolt at the bottom. Could anyone please help? What did you spray? You showed a can of WUR sillicon spray but I couldn't see what you spray on. Thank you in advance.

Hi, there is a clamp like at the Top Side. You have to look carefully. It´s a little tricky to reach but you will get it. :) The Spray is a Silicone Spray, i used it to prime the hose that the pipe flushes easy in it. Otherwise you have to press a lot and risk to damage something. It´s like when you make love. :-D

On the right side, how did you remove the bottom screw of the left solenoid? There is no clearance. Please see the attached picture. Even after I removed the oil filter and the 2 oil cooler pipes. Please help, I get stuck here.

On Cls63 M157, the left solenoid is much lower than the one in your video. I remember someone has mentioned that he had to remove oil filter housing.

Use E 10 torx not 8mm next time... :)
