Pretty good man. I'm working on designing my own sling for my newly self built custom AR15. Seeing you piece yours together helps. I am quite a perfectionist so I've been practicing clean, proper stitching with locks and Box-X.

2WheelJack Sounds cool. This one works good on my AR too. Might be a bit long or short depending on the person and the setup so keep that in mind when sewing maybe test it before the final stitches. But other than that it's a pretty universal sling that's hard to beat and obviously there are big name brands selling the same thing for considerably more. How nice you need it is all up to you. I was gonna try and put together a decent 3 point sling but honestly I prefer the 2 point sling on most rifles.

check out the thrift stores. Remember the heavier they are usually the better they hold up. I paid around 10-20 dollars for an old Japanese one that was real dusty but easy to clean and oil. Needs a new belt and a little TLC but nothing major and it works well. The new ones are "fancy" but for basic stuff an old one will work just as well and you can save your money for quality thread and still come out ahead. You can also do a quick search on your smart phone to see how well the old one is. Since its old there should be a good track record on if it is good or not. By now you probably found one but maybe this will help someone new looking

First, I'll let people know that this works much better if you use a high quality sewing machine, preferably with computer motor control. The computer aspect is less about frilly designs than about full power to the motor even at very slow speeds. I use a Jenome DC2012 and it will sew almost anything. I like this. I think I'll make some mods. First, I will use a longer "slide" belt portion. Instead of changing strap material at the front of the sling, I'll continue on the slide material, loop it through the connector (QD, HK, whatever) and loop back through two tri glides. This will make three improvements. 1 the slide area will be longer, 2 you can easily change out the connector if desired and 3, the overall length of the sling can be adjusted at the front if you like. No reason to change to another strap at the front of the glide portion that I can see. Use one or two tri glides instead of some of the permanent sewing. See how the VTAC slings are used. Tri-glides work fine for attaching and adjusting when done right.

No doubt! My brother just bought one that was designed for sewing through thick layers of fabric. He made a series of nylon AR pouches and a carrier bag with the thing in a couple hours.

Rope, duct tape and bailing wire works great. Takes about five minutes. Don't use barbed wire.

this is really awesome man.. Where did you get the Nylon webbing for the sling. I can find the 1.5 everywhere with good length, but its too thin and it isnt woven together good so its crap... If anyone here knows where i can get some in different colors and sizes 1.25, 1.5 and 2.0 that is really good for a cheap or decent price, please let me know! Oh and the different buckles, hooks, etc.. thats heavy duty that i can maybe get in different colors also, for cheap or decent price in those same sizes. thanks in advance

+Always Armed88 Do a google search for "MIL-W-17337 Nylon webbing". This is the milspec name for what you will want. Most of the distributors that sell this will have it in different colors with different buckles, sliders, etc... Some even sell kits. The milspec stuff should be strong and stiff enough to use with gliders as well as keep it's form while in use.

Hey, a bit late I guess, but if you have an Army/Navy Surplus store, just dig around. I have found all of the webbing I have ever needed. Sometimes, I even find straps with the hardware that I need. Depending on the amount of webbing I have, I will sometimes get it for FREE if I'm buying something else. I don't think I've ever paid more that a couple of dollars.

I have a regular singer sewing machine given to me for free. it works well but has limitations. most nylon or polyester straps arent much thicker that regular fabric. i cant remember the exact model right now but can let u know in a day or two

the biggest issue I run into r jams related to not being able to adjust the stitches looseness far enough to go through thicker materials like 3 or 4 layers of nylon... that would b a charactaristic to have on a sewing machine dedicated to sewing 2 more things that I would look for r webbing. 1) a foot that clamps down harder or allows for thicker fabric to be set in place so u can get tight corners and folds on thick material. 2) thinner and longer reaching arm so u can fit more fabric behind the need as its passing through the machine

Usually they sell aftermarket quick detach for most firearms that can be used with a sling.. But formost of my stuff I just use parachord.
