Thanks for this. This is not my first costume build but i am no expert by any means. This thing was not only easy to assemble but also is both lightweight and surprisingly durable. The strap is also VERY comfortable and fitting for my large head. Good design there. For those watching, the PDF template for this has detailed instructions for the strap. Some advice/question answers from my end: 1) Having a cylinder of some sort for warming/shaping the circles help a lot when gluing good circles. Wrap it to bend then the rings come together great. 2) I also found an X-Acto #1 blade cut this style of foam very nicely. (I believe he said he uses a surgical scalpel. Maybe add that link to your shop?) 3) Wear gloves unless you want scalded fingers while you glue.
@LostWax3 жыл бұрын
Great comment, thanks for sharing your experience! Yep, the scalpel blade I use is a #11. I'll have to have a look at the X-acto #1 as well.

I made a cute, pastel version of this a year ago for Halloween and rn I'm making a colourful clowncore one as well, just changed up your pattern a bit to look more fitting for those styles. I've also changed it up a bit to actually make it work as a mask to go grocery shopping and things like that in these corona times

The swirlie front piece is a little bit tricky much like the sun is a little bit warm! I about went insane on that! Also a tip for gluing the swirlie into piece E, I had much better luck with gel crazy glue. It took some time but worked great. My first try with hot glue made it dry wonky but the super glue allowed it to dry in a really even cylinder shape. Chris, thanks so much! I owe most of my steampunk costume to you ( and whoever invented EVA foam)!
@LostWax2 жыл бұрын
Yep, it is tricky. A good sharp scalpel, much patience and a lot of practice are your friends on that one:) And yes, crazy glue is an excellent option! Glad I could be a part of your steampunk costume!!

Jen Yates Oooh, thanks for the heads up, I will have to look into that. Not sure why it would be…...
@barackclinton5688 жыл бұрын
I just bought this pattern and am happy with it but I have a caution for everyone doing these. I was at a michaels that had these foam sheets in colors and I got black to make painting easier and prevent the undercolor shopwing it rhe paint flaked. Then I saw I needed a good white ink pen to mark it for cutting.Oops. If you get the coam sheets in black get a white marker pen.
@LostWax8 жыл бұрын
Good point. I should also point out that you will have a hard time getting the metallic wax paste looking good if you don't give a couple coats of acrylic paint first.
@barackclinton5688 жыл бұрын
+Lost Wax can you srapyapint this stuff or does it melt?
@LostWax8 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I have never tried, mostly because the painting technique I use is important to get the metallic wax paste to look right on it. I don't think it will melt it like it does to polystyrene foam, but I am not sure you will get the best results. If you first gave it all a coat of mod podge or white glue, that might work better…..
@barackclinton5688 жыл бұрын
what us mod lodge? Please remember I'm American and don't get a lot of Britt slang despite watching a lot of Britt tv like Dt. Who.
