Thank you for the thorough nature of your instruction. I thought it was a nice pace for teaching! I really enjoy your ideas. I'm making this cake for my husband's carry-in today. He's military police & I love this great masculine design. Mine is royal blue with silver edges, both for top & bottom, white background, and his emblem in fondant on the top. Thanks so much for the inspiration & instruction!

I imagine it would be, although I haven't tried it myself. I don't think you'd be able to paint the edges though, since whipped cream doesn't crust like buttercream does

I’ve seen some cakes like this but with sprinkles covering the center space...how would one go about doing that? Would you apply the sprinkles first? Thanks!
@BritishGirlBakes5 жыл бұрын
I would apply the first coat (white in this cake), press the sprinkles in while the frosting is sticky, chill it to set the sprinkles, and then apply the top and bottom layers of frosting. Hope that makes sense!

How many times buttercream did u make
@BritishGirlBakes5 жыл бұрын
About 4 cups of buttercream. I double my recipe to make 12 cups of buttercream, which is enough to fill, frosting and decorating 3 x 6" cakes. This cake was 6" (with 4 layers) and I use about 1/3 cup frosting between each layer, 2 cups to crumb coat (a little bit more for this one so you couldn't see the cake through the white frosting) and 1 cup to final coat (maybe a bit less because of the gap in the middle dividing the frosting.
@mellissechaumette30504 жыл бұрын
Ok so I tried this effect, applied the metallic lining then left it out. When I came back couple hrs later there were lines where it ran down the space and droplet (condensation) on the cake. Is this cake to be left refrigerated?

What's with the "buttercream" I keep seeing all over the place nowadays?? Does no one make actual light whipped OFFICIAL white fluffy cake frosting anymore? I've decorated cakes for 5 decades and in the last decade I began seeing buttercream start sneaking in and used as decorator frosting. Now it's the only thing I see. So I decided to try it and picked a recipe with stars on the internet. Well, I've done both now, bc I wanted to see what the hype was all about, and I have to say, it's popularity must just be bc it's easier to make. Bc it's sure not easier to frost or decorate with. The butter is too soft at room temperature and I had to keep putting my roses in the fridge to keep their shape. If I lined them up on parchment paper on the counter like I normally do, they became soft and their leaves lost their distinctive shape. Official decorator's frosting, that's been around for over a century, that my mother handed down to me, and her mother's mother's before that, is effortless and foolproof. You can make 100 roses and line them up on the counter and leave them there until your ready to use them and they will keep their shape and even harden further. You can even leave them overnight with just a tea towel to cover them and they'll stay perfect. Anything I make with this cake frosting is smooth, and easy. I spend my time decorating and not fussing with the buttercream. (in the fridge, out of the fridge, thicken with powdered sugar, thin with milk. Araagggggggg!) In the end buttercream is NOT easier to use, so why is it everywhere I look? And it tastes WAY too sweet also. It's not light and airy, and ever so lightly sweet, like your eating sugary air, with a fluffy feeling in your mouth. Buttercream is dense, very sweet, and buttery heavy, and has a heavy all over mouth feeling when you eat it. The only time I ever used buttercream in the past was to frost a sheet cake. Never was it ever used as a decorating frosting or a frosting for layered cakes. I gave it a solid try for at least a year, bc I wanted it to work, bc it is so much easier to make. But it's a disappointment and I can't figure out why the old best cake frosting isn't being used.
@BritishGirlBakes17 күн бұрын
I'm not sure what kind of frosting that is - is it the white kind that's on grocery store cakes? I personally am not a fan of that because I like creamy desserts and I find that to be sweet without the richness of buttercream but to each their own!
