Hey 👋 Did they expand on what they meant by a “Themed portfolio”? And did they say how many images? My guess is that all the works need to be part of a single theme or project. But you can always contact the Uni if you have any questions about the theme.

This is written on the website “Around 10 works, preferably on a topic, not just drawings and paintings. Sketches showing the creation process as well as explanatory texts are also welcome.” I applied for a graphic design course and game design one. I actually have an idea for a topic. I have a book that I love a lot, so I thought why not make a portfolio that tells the story of that book using different mediums like illustrations, paintings, photographs, sketches. The school in that book also has a logo, so I can redesign that logo too. Do you think this idea is suitable for a portfolio?

That sounds like a great idea! Really authentic and it tells a story which is specific to you! Which Uni is it you’re applying for??

Thanks, your comment really gave me hope and encouragement. I actually live in Germany so I applied for HMKW Frankfurt and also another university in Frankfurt. I got an email this morning from HMKW and now have an online interview to stress about. Also the portfolio requirements were from same Uni.

Hey, they are quite expensive and generally have mixed reviews. (Although I have not heard anything specific about the UAL one). I’m sure they could be helpful! Do you have an art teacher? Maybe you could ask them if they think it would benefit you?
