I heard about the theory a long time ago and then I realized this is what they do basically every planned date on the Bachelor. There’s always a concert, a fast car, helicopter ride, horse riding, zip lining, skydiving etc. It seems only near the end that the dates start to get more normal but even then they’re on vacation somewhere so it’s still exciting. That’s probably part of the reason the couples don’t last a lot of the time.

I love what you're doing with this channel. Thank you. A point of logic: It seems to me that misattribution of arousal is a reason to AVOID intense situations on a first date. Otherwise you might end up thinking you're attracted to someone and later realizing that no, it was just the rollercoaster. That or adding the exciting situation makes it harder for you two to notice that you're NATURALLY excited about each other. …which I suppose implies that KNOWING about misattribution of arousal can result in more boring dates! 😆

@InSomnia DrEvil I'm pretty sure that's the point. At least if you don't intend to abuse the system. It works great with friends too. You bond with people much faster if do something strenuous or uncomfortable together. I remember back when I did my conscript service that the barracks was dominated by this awkward silence for the first week, until we were suddenly woken up early on Friday morning to the sound of angry officers and blaring aggressive techno music, Thoroughly confused we were lead out on an early dawn run to to the beach where we took some arm-linked sit ups in the cold ocean. After this semi traumatic experience we all suddenly had very lose tongues and rapidly became good friends. The sudden shift in mood was striking!

Tbh this is why I actually prefer more chill activities on the first date; you know that if the girl is having a good time, it's because of you and not just due to what you're both doing together. I would actually recommend the opposite for a first date. If your date becomes aroused because of the perceived potential danger, they're not sized by you. And even if they link the arousal to you initially, it will not last. Best approach is to be your authentic self. If they don't like it aren't attracted to you authentic self, the relationship won't last anyway.

I have read about these researches I think you have to include in your video that arousal only intensifies the feelings we already have (this is why we get worse at things we are already bad at if we are doing them infront of an audience, but we perform better what we are already good at). If the person does not like their date the bad feeling will be intensified but if they are attracted to the date the attraction increases :))

Sure but every first date is based off of looks. U literally have nothing to go on. So that would mean already there is the excitement to dive in deeper to start building this connection if there is one as the first stage has been met is you already agreed to meet based on looks and you’re preconceived notion that they are a good person / match Hence the video says to do something “exciting” to be more “attractive”

That's so crazy! I was recently thinking about how I sometimes feel cold and nervous at the same time and have been wondering if I felt nervous simply because I was starting to have a physiological response to being cold. This seems to validate that theory!

I've been hearing about these techniques myself I liked that you put the disclaimer at the end to not think if that works that that way of going about can keep a relationship going at best it'll only work for about a few dates but good idea though and interesting experiment tho

I turned 20 & got a motorcycle. I was broke in college, so every first date was on my motorcycle. This explains so much. Took my current girlfriend out on a bike and we’ve been together for 4 years. Definitely started the spark but took a lot of growing for both of us to develop that relationship. So it’ll work for the start but you better be responsible w it!

This is true. Try also working out together. Cardio is best. It may seem weird on the first date, but has the same effect.
@rafaelalodio51163 жыл бұрын
The problem with this strategy is that you first need to convince the girl to go out with you for any of those to work.

Actually I can 100% approve this. I had a date with a girl and we went to a lake by bike and we swim in the lake. I still remember EVERYTHING from that date and I had A LOT of Dates and it is years ago. She got a job offer and moved to another town, and I still had to study and after one date we did not intend to do a longdistance relationship, so we stopped dating. But that is the explantation why i remember it so well.

This sounds like excitation transfer, and specifically applied to arousal/attraction. I've never thought to connect those things! This also means that one should try to avoid having heated arguments under environmentally stimulating situations (like while driving). I do think that this is borderline manipulative. But who am I to judge.

We can only manipulate which signals their body sends them, by influencing their environmental conditions (for example, let's say the bridge experiment). If they do the interpretation of those signals unconsciously/badly, not correctly linking their body signals with environmental factors, then they might be manipulated/ influenced in that way. But if they consciously/wisely see that the environmental conditions make their reading of their body signals not clear, they can wait & see if they will still feel the same body signals about that person when the environmental conditions are not a stimulating factor anymore (on a second date, for example ^^)
@TheRocknrollmaniac3 жыл бұрын
It may seem manipulative but experiments like these, and numerous other in psychology, are really discovering hot water over and over. I mean, yeah there will be some connection if you do some exciting things together. Yes, a date will be more memorable if you do crazy shit and not simply sit in a restaurant checking your phones. Common sense, which now has an experimental proof. Good for us!

Met my girl on Tinder. We went on a date. Started in my favorite pub, got some Guiness in us and chatted about some random stuff. Once I understood that she's good company (she probably had similar ideas), we went on a stroll around the city. I took her to one of central parks that we have, park is badly lit, it was dark (Winter time), and we got lost. Literally. Then I was able to understand where we are + I had a flashlight and I showed her an "emergency" bunker from WW1 that is now used for storing old, expensive books. Then we got lost again and had to move through some hilly, bushy area so she got her fancy shoes messed-up. Then we got a taxi to my place, I baked chocolate lava cakes, made us some gin tonics and we watched some black/white movies from 50s (probably some noir detective). I mean, dates are easy. Walk around and do some stuff. Just do something. If she/he is a normal person, you'll manage. If they think you're boring, don't waste your time. From getting drunk, lost in the forest, and watching b/w movies to living 3 years straight together.

You use that term ‘miss-attribute’ so well and accurately, but in the context of a first date, it sounds so sleazy…but in all seriousness, very cool stuff! Never thought of it this way. Oh, and your cat was definitely distracting me with its tail.
@OriMoscovitz3 жыл бұрын
That's the reason I never do boring first dates, one was at the park (like Disney world), other in karting, field ride, escaep room, it's always fun and exciting and less awkward than just sitting and looking at each other... 🙃

A great suggestion for first dates is a petting zoo. As silly as it sounds, it’s an original setting that accomplishes what this video is revealing. Not only will you both be stimulated by the cute animals, she’ll remember you simply because of how unique the idea was.

Recently hung out with a girl at her place. Got high and watched the walking dead. Needless to say the vibes that night were immaculate with the episode we were on and us discussing the shows elements and us playing around. I think the show really set a nice mood where we could make jokes but also have real conversation about the depth of the show.

This one girl I was really into she told me she was an adventurous girl. So I took her to the top of a parking garage and pulled out a few climbing harnesses attached a rope to the truck and threw it over the side and we both repelled down the side a bunch of times. (I was really into rock climbing back then) been married for 21 years now and have 3 kids with her..

I've tried this a couple of times by speeding, tailgating, and weaving in and out of traffic on first dates. They get physiologically aroused but there's no bonding, and they refuse to go out with me again. I don't know why...

Is there no philosophical consequence to using fear to initiate arousal? If all the partners you ever had met you during a terrifying event, did any of them actually find you attractive or did they all fool themselves into thinking their fear was love? If the resulting relationships work, does that mean you could have had a successful relationship with almost anyone so long as you met them on the equivalent of a narrow suspension bridge. These are very similar questions I would ask of a pickup artist, if you have to use tricks to get someone's love then is it even real?

Is this why some people are like "addicted" to cheating? Because every date with the other one is an adrenaline rush?
@Piotr_Szyba3 жыл бұрын
Yes. Risk = arrousal. It's all because of PEA (Phenyletylamine) which is a hormone connecting danger and sexual arrousal.

I mean it kind of makes sense because general advice for dating is to go places that are likely to increase one's heart rate such as places with activities, scary movies and the like.
@everythingaboutherwords3 жыл бұрын
This explains alot when I met this one guy, and he isnt that predictable he wants me not to know where should we hang and the next time I knew it we were being interrogated by the Police because we parked in the wrong area. And after that we always followed by adrenaline rush. Maybe that's the reason why I am attracted to him lmao. But the fact that he is a unique person who understands me pretty well even I don't speak whats on my mind. Makes me fell for him even more.

And a physical activity is a nice conversation filler. If you have nothing to say you can just focus on the activity without the burden of the awkward silence. Pretty usefull for not so talkative ones.

This is why making out etc. At a club is so appealing or that new years kiss or playing a game you both are mentally invested in cause the persn you are with attaches the energy to you and it compounds cause at first were here now were talking now were drinking now dancing now kissing and escalates and escalates and you end up never ever forhetting that night cause of the craziness etc.
