I was looking for ways to swage EMT for a greenhouse and this popped up. I'm completely and unashamedly pre-sold on this channel. I've been working with EMT all my adult life and knew all along what a terrific and under-utilized construction material it is. This is absolutely fantastic! Sign me up, Dave!

For simple closet pole solution, you cut two 2x4's, or 2x3's, and put holes in both sides, and then secure the 2x lumber to the wall. etc. You really need to use the 2x lumber, because you need to secure a closet pole to the studs. You can use 3/4, or even fence poles (1 5/8), etc.

Another vote for strength test. You can also add casters to table legs by pressing in a coupling nut into the EMT, and screwing in a threaded stem caster to it.

I am very glad you made the distinction between the steel fittings and the cast ones. Also I noticed that you didn't remove the lock nut from the fittings before screwing them into the floor flange. , I think I would so I could engage more threads. I just went to the shop and tried it both ways and it works both ways. A bit of the space where you put the fender washer is lost but bi still think you have room for it.

Great video! What is your opinion on removing the "locking nut" on the connectors for option 2 and 3 to get more depth into the flange? Do you think that helps or hurts the overall strength of the connection? I vote for strength testing too!

Great idea and video. Well explained! For my project, I'm customizing my drum hardware (stands) to set-up faster and take up less room by removing the tripod legs. That leaves me with a 1" metal tube (similar to EMT). I thought about using flanges and threading the tube on the inside or outside of the tube, then securing flanges on wood stage (specific locations based on my set-up) then they would screw into a flange or flange with a nipple. However, you inspired a new approach. Key thing is I need strength and the ability to remove the 1" metal tube (stand) each night after a show, so I can place them back in a case for travel and fold up my wood drum stage. Flanges would always remain. Any ideas or recommendations?
@MakerPipe
@MakerPipe 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and the question! Do you think the compressions or set screw coupler method without the tube insert hack would suffice for the main setup? If so, you could remove the set screw and pull out the pipes pretty easily and the flanges could stay screwed in.
@edwarddelgaudio3927
@edwarddelgaudio3927 2 жыл бұрын
@@MakerPipe Thanks for the response! I agree. The set screw coupler method will definitely work, but I'll modify it by adding either self-taping screws or a nut/bolt to keep the tube permanently attached to tube (for strength). Then each night All I have to do is unscrew from the flanges. Thoughts? I'm sending this channel to a ton of friends. Your ideas and this creative DIY community is what we need ! Great work brutha!

Hey, Dave, Randy here. . . Wondering if you can share the washer/countersunk bolt specs. I was at the big box store yesterday checking out options, and there are a lot of choices for fender washers. I realized I did not have threaded inserts yet, but I was planning on 1/4-20 because of the versatility. Anyway, I put everything back on the shelves and thought I should do a little more research and ask. Maybe your washer has the 3-letter code on it (used at checkout)? and the screw. . . love the idea of using the hex wrench. Was it 1/4-20? seems like 1/4” is too narrow, so I am thinking you did not use that for your threaded insert. Enlighten us!
@MakerPipe
@MakerPipe 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Randy thanks for the comment. I have updated the description with links to the exact fender washer and counter sunk bolt that you would need to recreate it. Unfortunately we couldn't find a 1-4/20" version of the counter sunk bolt that was long enough to reach the insert. Hope this helps!
