hot tip, if you tilt the table of the band saw a small amount, say about 5 degrees, when you slide the handle portion back it will wedge itself into the scoop portion leaving you with fewer gaps to fill. Love the scoops and can't wait to get a copy of the new book. Keep having fun, that's what this is all about!

You are the real MVP. With a good amount of sanding and your angle trick i imagine that the joint between pieces could become nearly invisible.

I think the textures really set these scoops off. One looks like an artistic pattern of wood that's had bugs borrow through it (in a good way), another looks like a bark pattern, and the third looks like something that's seen some real wear and tear over time. All beautifully inspired and gorgeous to look at

Also, I want to low key live vicariously through you and see what this awesome new technology can do! I really dig the hand carved textures! I'm all about the organic vibe. The third option looks like my grandpa's tobacco pipe, in fact, you could probably make a pipe head piece in a similar way as the scoop, if you are in to smoking tobacco... Keep making 'em, we'll keep watching 'em.

Thank you!! I need to make a cat food scoop for my Dad. At 92, his hands don’t work so well. I may change the design a bit to make it more friendly to limited finger movement. I’ll need to make some prototypes and see what he likes better. I really love the idea of cutting out the scoop and handle with the bandsaw. :)

An idea...make two blanks, one from light wood and the other dark. Slice them like a meatloaf, interchange slices to make a 'banded' effect, glue them up, clean/face them up, THEN proceed to make the scoop.

Something I learned recently, if you're doing a poly finish (or really anything that hardens) you can use sawdust and your finish, instead of sawdust and glue, to hide your cracks and gaps, and it blends in even better.
