A 'caruncle' is a general term for a normal small fleshy protrusion that belongs to a bird's body. Some species' caruncles have more specific names too (often 'comb' for what's on the crown of flightless birds' heads). Caruncles don't have to grow from the crown of the birds' head (the snood of a turkey, for instance, is also a caruncle).
