Caught some nasty cold and was feeling poorly, made this recipe with jack Daniels, extra cloves, and extra honey with some cinnamon thrown in for good measure. It eliminated my throat pain right before bed, and the jack Daniels made me sleep like a log. Not to mention, it was delicious. Thanks so much for this recipe. Easy to follow, great to watch and listen to. You've made my life much better for an evening, and I appreciate that grandly.

Amazing stuff. Small piece of information - toddy originates from India. It originally started in India (controlled by the British at the time) in the 1610s and was derived from the Hindi word “taddy,” which translated into a drink made with fermented palm sap.

My husband used to drink these when he was sick. That, or a bottle of Nyquil (the whole bottle at once, yuk). It worked, he never stayed sick long. I don't like alcohol, so not for me, but you know I had to watch it anyway....LOL

You can make without alcohol. Many use a tea base as well. Also spices are mandatory like cinnamon to kill germs.

I usually use rum for this. Dark Navy rum, actually. Why? Because I bought a 40oz bottle of it to make rum balls one time, only to discover that I only need two tablespoons of rum for a whole batch. Hmmm, what to do with an almost full bottle of rum? Yes, hot toddy.
@BlackTieKitchen5 жыл бұрын
Haha - you can also make coquito with it 😉 My mom made chilli one time and as soon as everyone took a bite, their mouths were aflame. Turns out she put the whole can in - yet it only called for 1 pepper. Needless to say, I had chilli for a week lol

Good recipe!!! But what was the first glass of water for? Just a querry. I was watching because I want to make this for my cold since I don’t like drinking medicine.
@pom11pom5 ай бұрын
It was to warm the glass. I used to waitress and people would ask me to do this to their coffee cup so that when I added the coffee it didn't cool off right away by going into a cold cup.

Why you gotta heat up a cup that is going to have hot water poured in to it anyway
@BlackTieKitchen4 жыл бұрын
Because of the heat transfer! If you pour a hot liquid into a cold cup, heat will quickly move from the liquid to the cup (heat always transfers to cooler areas, not vice versa). This will yield a luke warm drink. Glass is an especially good conductor of heat, so it will leech it from the cocktail rather quickly. Think of the reverse - would you put an ice cold drink into a hot mug that just came out of the microwave?
