I stumbled across the prior video, so naturally subscribed. I am a crafter, but I’ve never made a junk journal. However I must admit that I’m inspired. In October I started a series of cross stitch pieces that I thought I would put in a book rather than framing them. I think this would be a perfect thing to do for them. Perhaps breaking into chapters for each piece. I will have to be a bit industrious and see if any used book stores are open at this time to get some materials. I have a very old dictionary that is literally falling apart that I’ve saved from the trash for years. Now I’m glad I did. Thank you for the inspiration and guidance. I was a card maker and scrapbooked for years so I have lots of stamps and inks, and recently I purchased a set of paints for fabrics. This will be a multi craft project. Looking forward to gathering material and the creative process.

Hello Joie! I thought I had watched all your video's in the past few weeks, but I seem to have skipped this one. I just wanted to say I absolutely love to see how you chose your pages for your signature and I also LOVE how you treat these pages with so much respect. ❤️ I can still have some guilt feelings when I tear out a page of a book, but then I look at how you do it and I think it is OK. I am using your tips and philosophy now to put together my new journal and it is so satisfying! Thank you again and I hope you never stop making these video's about using old book pages. 🙏💕😊

I love how you preserve paper with your various foldings! I tried some different folds and tucks today when I made a junk journal with the junk mail that came yesterday. It turned out terrific! When I choose book pages I try not to think to deeply about what I choose, because I enjoy the surprise “journal prompt” when I write in my journal. I also don’t worry about direction of text or music, and try to use it as an artistic statement rather than a written one. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is “be random.”

I'm finding it quite interesting that you start with the cover. It's the final thing in my process. I usually don't know in advance how many signatures it will contain at the start The one I'm working on now, I quit making signatures when I used up all the material I pulled for the pages. That left me with 9 signatures, creating 180 pages. I decided to space the sewing line for each signature at 1/4" apart. That way there's a lot of room for expansion as the journal fills up with pockets, envelopes and ephemera. So now that I've sewn each signature to heavy card stock, I know my spine has to be 4". The largest page sticks out 6.5" so the front and back need to be slightly wider. *Now* I can make the hard covers and end-papers. Once I do that, then the fun of playing inside can begin. 🙂 I haven't decided if I'm going to do that or sell it so someone else can have that joy.

So beautifully presented. I learnt so much. Thank you for your generosity. As a newbie, can you please tell me about copyright issues concerning magazines and book pages in journals for sale. Thank you for sharing.
@joiedefi4 жыл бұрын
Pretty much everything in a magazine or book page can be ripped up and played with; the golden rule is that you can't make a copy of it. So if you have a pretty page in a book or magazine you can use it in your project, and you can sell that project, but you cannot make a copy of it. So you can't make a collage/Masterboard and photocopy or scan it. If a book is so old that it's out of copyright then you are ok...but still be careful as some titles of books are still trademarked, even though the book is out of copyright. An example of this is "Alice in Wonderland". I understand that Disney owns the trademark and so you can't use those words or the characters in any projects or items that you sell. Simple isn't it 🤣 Let me know if I can help...

I really liked this video and it was so fun to watch just wondering what size is that needle you use what it's called and where do you buy it thanks
@joiedefi4 жыл бұрын
Aaah great question! It's an old sock darning needle, which I "inherited" from my Mum's sewing box ... it's about 7cm long. I suspect that these are available on eBay and Amazon, or a local craft store. Does this help? Thanks for your interest and this question. Welcome to my channel! 👍🏻😁💜

Lovely! Are you using cotton thread in this project?
@joiedefi4 жыл бұрын
It's just regular, cheap household string that I use to bind it...the collaged cover is sewn with cotton thread (Part 1 in this video series). 😁❣️

I'm looking at my stack of books and magazines during your video to gather paper the same way you do. This is not easy I must say. I still look too much in boxes, you know what I mean. green grass is not suitable for snow, for example. I'll see what you mean when it comes to the structure and font of your paper. i love that too. I think I want to cover too much in a journal. Do you understand what I mean. But I'm going to try. And I also have to fold more I see. I love jour journal.

what kind of thread is it that you used in your sewing the cover? it looks rather thick and I like that and I am very new to sewing will that work in any machine and with any needle?
@joiedefi4 жыл бұрын
Hi Tonya, it is quite thick... it's a bold deep burgundy red. It feels like cotton although it may have a little polyester in it. It is intentionally bold to make an impact....I have a cheap £40 sewing machine from Hobbycraft, nothing special, and it seems to work ok. Let me know if I can be of any further help. And let me know how you get on.... always keen to track progress...welcome on board 😁👍💜

Hi Joie, I've been enjoyed your videos, thank you. I notice you use a lot of Arteza products. Have you ever tried their pens? I've been considering investing in the Everblend markers but they are expensive so just wondering if you've tried them and would reccommend?
@joiedefi4 жыл бұрын
That's a great question.. I use the gel pens and the brush pens. I don't have the Everblend pens..so I'm excited to hear how they do work if you get them! I have seen them used in bullet journal illustration I think....thanks so much for visiting my channel. Really great to be able to welcome you here. 😁💜

Hoy do you use this kínder of journal? Where do you write or paste personal Stuff?
@joiedefi4 жыл бұрын
Hello Aurora....I add papers to it.... including more spaces to write. I also paint and collage in it. I have a whole Playlist of videos showing that process, if playing in a journal is something that you enjoy. I have found it to be peaceful and rather addictive and definitely fun. I also make add envelopes and pockets to house journaling cards and paper. I hope this makes sense......Joie ❣️
