How To Make A Kydex Sheath - Boat Knife - UltiClip

Today we'll me making a kydex sheath for my recent boat knife build. This simple sheath construction is easy to learn and execute. I'll also be utilizing an Ulticlip Slim v3.3 to carry this sheath in my back pocket.

Like that clip. I used to do alot of kydex sheaths for my knife and customers were requesting leather more.

Great video👍. Ill be trying those diy holster eyelets. I have to sand EXACTLY 4-5 thousandths off the quickclip eyelets for them not to split with the ckk eyelet die

Nicely done, just one question on a 3 year old video. Why didn´t you made the sheath slimmer and instead of placing the clip to the side, placed it in the middle ?

I think I was looking for a way to attach the clip with the current eyelets. In addition, I think having the clip side by side to the handle makes the whole package thinner. CHeers

Hello! Thanks for your comment and for watching. You heat the kydex so that it will form around your knife. By doing this you create retention. So the knife will "snap" into the sheath.

I know the hinges keep the two half’s of the kydex press together, but could you just clamp both sides to keep it closed or do the hinges maintain a certain angle on the backend? I want to make one.

The hinges don't matter at all. You could just use two plates with foam.

That looks like the Harbor Freight mini mill? I am actually going to be buying a mini mill in the next couple weeks. I haven't read really good things about the mill. Would you suggest spending a little more, or do you think it will work ok for knife making? milling slots for guards, possibly some folder work, etc.?

That is a harbor freight mini mill. I think it "can" do all of those things, however, you may want something beefier if you're planning on using it a ton. That being said, at slow feed rates, I think it could be a winner for you. The digital readout would be a good addition, I'm thinking about mounting one on mine. "little machine shop" has some good documentation on this machine.

OK, I get why are you naming the brands on everything you are using. I appreciate it I do, it is very helpful to follow along and research items as I watch your videos. The issue you are going to run into is the laws around sponsorship. You need to be very carefull about dropping names of manufacturers. If any of these companies have ever sent you product for free and you do not mention them as a sponsor you can be fined a boatload of money. Whatever the value of that item is I promise you it is not worth it. Even further use of those items in future videos can come with repercussions if you can not prove the termination date of the sponsorship.
