Its a cool build there Mikko. Maybe if you minimized the epoxy between the sheets you could make it weight neutral or even floating. Would you be able to cut details into it with a knife, or would you be able forced to use a multitool for all details?

I think you would be able to use a knife but it would not be ideal thats for sure, as this tends to be rather hard

I really enjoyed this video the last 30 minutes just slipped by watching you create a very pretty and effective lure. The use of newspaper was a great idea, I wonder if you could build a lure using old cloth and epoxy? Your skills with the the airbrush were a joy to watch and seeing you actually catch fish with the finished article was a bonus. Thank you for retrieving the lost line and tackle, as you said we as anglers have a responsibility to look out for nature and your care of the fish you caught was exemplary, many could learn a lesson here. Thanks for posting this excellent video I stumbled on. Liked and Subscribed from a happy English angler :)

Micarta is pretty nice because you could almost completely hollow out the lure and make it rattle / lighten the lure how you see fit. I gotta try it too.

Awesome video of lure making and fishing. Releasing the fish is always great idea. But just to help out these poor fishes I would recommend using so called "fish lip gripper". The idea is that injuring fish'es lip is not that big of a deal, while holding the fish by it's gills is equivalent of someone grabbing our lungs by hand.
@SolarfallBaits6 жыл бұрын
it really depends on the type of fish, i would not do this to a salmon or a trout, pike have a "natural carying handle" and when you chin grib them like i did very little damage is done to them if you do it properly.
@bobjohnson95595 жыл бұрын
Very nice. Nice craftsmanship. I like the paper layup, but wonder if paper is even necessary. Do you think just a block of the epoxy would work?

@btolton34196 жыл бұрын
Very nice. That's like Micarta. I've seen knife handles done that way using denim from old pairs of jeans. very cool! One tip. When working with epoxy, even after it's cured it's still a good idea to wear gloves during sanding. Over time you can develop an allergy to the resin in the dust. it can cause some serious skin reactions. Try to prevent that if you can.

The material he made is called micarta it is the lamination of multiple layers of fabric/paper to create a useable stock. It is mostly seen in knife making for handles. But im guessing some one already told you that. Id also like to see you try and do a bluegill style bait it would be cool to see if you can copy it even though it is not a native species where you live.

How fast do your lures sink when you go pike fishing? Also do pike like any specified paint patter?
@SolarfallBaits6 жыл бұрын
it really depends alot on the water temps now that its still warmer i can get away with faster moving baits that usually sink faster too. what comes to what colors pike like i think its the same as with other species, different patters work better on different light situations, natural colors are a good medium i feel as it usually imitates what they are naturally attracted to.

Hello Mikko, once again greetings from Peru... this was just amazing!!!..you are Master of Masters... What a great idea to do this lure made of paper and resin. Something I was wondering is about the final weight. As you said, even though resin+paper was a sinking combination you add some additional weight. Did you weight the lure at the end? ...I ask you this, because maybe I will get your idea (with your permission) to try to do some lures to catch Corvinas. in this way, I'm going to have an option to replace my Attila Slim (which is made with stainless steel). I would like to do like a sinking Pen-lure having around 30-40gr of weight. Do you see possible? Maybe you can give a look to my video where I do my Attila slim and you can figure out what I want to do. Just to finish, I have only one thing to say: CONGRATULATIONS for your work...it is extraordinary!!! .. PS. I loved the moment when you cast for first time to try your lure and suddenly that pike attacked it...awesome... Well, let's keep in touch...bye :)

bigseanSM yeah I know most guys in the UK don't use them which I find peculiar considering there is no scientific data saying that they are actually harmful to pike, not that I'm aware of anyway. only think that might happen is that pike might loose teeth or in worst case scenario get a dislocated jaw which I don't think would be even possible on the gag I use, it's very weak. I even measured the springs force once and its able to generate 1.1kg of spring force.
