In this video Maxx shows us how to make a simple coin purse or drawstring bag for Larp.
This bag is so simple to create, you can make them as giveaways at larp or at Halloween, Birthday Parties, Play or Movie props, Ren Faires, Cosplay, Pirate Shenanigans, Table Top Role-Playing props or anything else you can think of.
This style bag rides eternal, so whether you play medieval fantasy or post-apocalyptic, it's a simple design to stand the tests of time.
All you need is a piece of fabric to cut into a circle, something to punch holes with and a piece of string. It can be as simple or elaborate as you want.
If the bag is large enough, you can attach a small circular piece of wood in the bottom with symbols on and myriad other options and add-ons.
I would love to see your creations, so be sure to tag me in a photo of anything you make on Instagram or Twitter: @larpmix

Second note; If you want to size up (and not use a trash can lid) using a length of string pinned on one end and with a pen/pencil on the other you can pretty much have a circle of any size by having the pin at the center and keeping the string taut.

I've been using variants of this as dice bags for years. Nice tutorial for a multi-purpose baggy that fits both fantasy and post apocalyptic realms (depending on materials used)

Thank you so much for making this tutorial video. I've been putting together a costume for a convention I'll be going to soon and I've been adding details and little accessories to complete it. I wanted something simple, useful, and visually appealing to carry my stuff in, seeing as the costume I made didn't exactly have pockets and I didn't want to carry a bag around. These little pouches are absolutely perfect. I've made three so far, and I'll probably make one or two more. I'm tying them to a belt so I can keep everything handy, and it just looks so good. I used felt, linen, and cotton, and I did a few different sizes-- a large dinner plate, a pizza pan, a bowl lid. Overall, I'm so happy with the results; I had a lot of fun and I'll probably keep making them for fun afterwards. Your tutorial was super helpful and I can't thank you enough for sharing it!!

I'm wanting to make one that can last a long time for my newer common coins I collect that are from all over the world. This is a great idea. I have 2 that you just pull the strings on either ends but they are made of a material that collects so much hair or fur on the outside. My mom got them when she bought a ring and a bracelet from a site and gave me them. I hate having materials that collect hair this easily. I'm going to use this design to hold some and another design for traveling that matches the one in My Little Pony that is from the episode where Pinkie Pie trades her favorite party cannon to get a pouch for her sister to carry her pet rock named boulder in. It's a coin pouch she saw in the episode that could also work with her sister's pet rock. I love taking small crystals and things with me as well so this could be great for that as well. If you play D&D you can use one like that to take dice with you if you make one that can last longer.

Idea for a future video. Make several of these with varying size templates. End goal to show how large of a pouch you get from each. I have a small (6 inch inner diameter?) suede one for a pair of bone dice. And a large one (16 inch id?) That holds a good amount of tinder and fire supplies.

It's interesting to have little pouches with coins in them for LARP purposes! Would also be cool in DnD settings, I think.

Once you start to scale up to much larger bags, I think it would be a bit more practical to cut a rectangle shape , fold it in half and just sew up the sides. Seems like you can get a considerable amount of capacity for the amount of fabric used.

I know this video is old, but any suggestions for a lady to smartly hide her coin purse on her person? No, I don’t mean in her bosom...
@LarpMix
@LarpMix Жыл бұрын
Well, not in the bosom... But a string around the neck with the purse attached and down the shirt definitely is simple enough to do. However... I always hid mine in a secret pocket that can easily be sewn to the inside of any garment, or depending on your costume, put it between layers. If you wear a tunic for instance, keep the purse high enough on a belt, or even a separate belt under the tunic, but in front of the pants or skirt. I always liked the secret pocket, because it can still be easily to access, especially if you cut a hole or have a false pocket that reaches to the inside of a garment, and you can put whatever enclosure you want on it, since it's out of sight. This gives less chance of losing it if running or fighting or falling. I used vecro or zippers on the inner concealed pockets with great success. If you are nervous about it being burgled, then also wear a fake one on the outside, with a few rocks or something in, that way the thief will hit the easy mark, while leaving you actual coinage safely tucked away. I hope that gives some ideas. I almost always play rogues, so I always had secret pockets and tons of soft kit layers to hide stuff in.

With that kind of pouch, you, probably, want the string on the outside because it's a better place for being able to attach the drawstring to something as needed. Also, you can make a pile of them for $2.50 US most of the time with just swapping out the cord for a hemp one. Dollar Tree has both the felt cloth sections that are big enough for a lot of them and has the twine.

You could also nalbind something slightly stretchy, like a sleeve for the coins with material 75% of the way around the coin so that you can easily slot the coins into place, keep them in a stack, take them out, pad them as needed, or whatever, while they stay secure.

@@LarpMix Have you done a video on how a LARP works. If not maybe something quick like do you check in and register. Do you declare the type of character you are. Do you have to maintain that character throughout the entire LARP session. Once a character dies how long before they get to come back. Do you have spawn points in the game for dead characters to resurrect. Just the general layout and function of how things work through a basic game.

Whats a good way to make a thief costume
@LarpMix
@LarpMix 5 жыл бұрын
People will debate that. I'd say just dress like a normal average character to blend in. But if you want to be a thief, a hooded cloak and something over your lower face for sure. All black if you're edgy, but any colors work.

I feel that all the material bundled up at the top would seem excessive. Another idea to help minimize that would be to cut two pieces of fabric into a "U" shape. Sew the pieces together with faces touching, leaving the top open. You could punch your holes for the drawstring along the opening now, or wait until after the next step. Once the edges are sewn, turn the bag inside out. Then lace your drawstring. It's a bit more work, but I feel this would have a couple of advantages. First, less material around the top, so you can use a shorter drawstring, and I would think a better close. Second, even when fully open, the bag still has a cup shape, so it's less likely for things to fall out. Thanks for the video!!
