I've made a bunch of these. This tutorial is great. Like a few others have mentioned; if you're going to use these in the microwave, everything--fabric, thread, batting, needs to be 100% cotton. Anything else will melt or catch fire.

If you use in the microwave to cook or heat the bowl full of food. all fabric, batting and thread needs to be 100% cotton. Otherwise it can cause a fire. This what I was told in a class. If you aren’t going to put it in the microwave then yes you can use other materials. I hope that helps. If you find out different please let me know too. Thank you
@dorisosborne99815 жыл бұрын
That’s what I was told also. But knowing how things change was just making sure. I was told to put a pice of the fabric in microwave to see if it melts or burn. Thank you for your reply.
@phillipblume31775 жыл бұрын
I cant figure out what you microwave in these bowls
@judithburke15395 жыл бұрын
You put the bowl with the food y want to heat into the fabric bowl, then put it into the microwave and heat the food. Then you can use the fabric bowl to lift everything out of the microwave to wherever you want to eat. The fabric bowl acts like a formed hot pad to prevent burning your fingers while removing the hot food from the microwave. It also allows you to safely transport the hot food to wherever you plan on eating. Have a great day.
@marlenehahn56785 жыл бұрын
Well we just used what we were told was 100 percent cotton batting. It scorched at 2 minutes. What length of time and temperature setting is safe to use in microwave. Our fabric and thread did not scorch. They were 100 percent cotton

@@cherylgooden7073 that’s what I did when I had to make an additional 17 last month. I didn’t time myself because I wasn’t going to be charging. These were gifts for the people that take care of my mother in the assisted living facility. Most people don’t really time themselves you’d be surprised how long some of these things take to make, including all of the steps

I agree to do in stages. I am currently working on an intricate granny square long cardigan so I do 94 squares one row at a time rather than one whole square at a time. Job will go much faster this way. I would also add a hanging loop to the opening before stitching closed.

But Why? Is it to cover the top of your balls to stop food splashing all over the microwave? Or is it to put underneath your balls so you don't burn your hands when you take them out? I don't understand the point of them, though they are very pretty.

What about stains and splashes? More washing, more detergent and more drying time. Why not use a microwavable glass or ceramic plate to cover your dish? It might rattle a bit when in the microwave but will be no more of a problem than bursting plastic, over-spill from dishes that are too small, or any hotter to lift out (steam from the food will heat and wet up the cloth and batting and could cause scalding) Isn't batting plastic/polyester? Both glass/ceramic dish and plate can be washed at the same time, no food left on them to grow mold, no extra storage to find. I grew up in the days before plastic wrap and microwave ovens and have managed mostly without either of them though I do have a microwave oven.
@kathrynrife76385 жыл бұрын
Hi Margaret! This video is a bit misleading in that it is not a bowl cover, but rather a bowl cozy for use in the microwave. You place your food into your bowl then place the bowl into the bowl cozy. Place into microwave to reheat the food. The rounded points of the cozy allow you to lift the very hot bowl out of the microwave without burning fingers or hands.
@SewYeah5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply Kathryn. You are right on point. Hope that explains it a little more Margaret.
