How To Make A Bracelet From A Bead Strand
by Jennifer and Kitty O'Neil
Running With Sisters
We love pearls! So we made this elegant Pearl Illusion Necklace featuring nothing but pearls! We decided to "float" the pearls on gold bead stringing wire using crimp beads. This necklace is so pretty and actually very easy to make. We'll show you every step! Even if you’ve never made a necklace before, you can make this Pearl Illusion Necklace. We’ll show you the tools and materials you’ll need. Then we'll show you how to space the pearls on the bead stringing wire and how to secure them in place using crimp beads. And then we'll show you how to use crimp beads to add the clasp.
How To Make A Pearl Illusion Necklace
Tools & Materials
15 Pearls, 5mm ►amzn.to/3rg0fJf
32 Crimp beads, gold, size #1 ►amzn.to/38vs7QL
2 Clamshell bead tips, gold ►amzn.to/37IFuOu
1 Small lobster clasp, 12mm ►amzn.to/37HgHKQ
1 Jump ring, gold, 5mm ► amzn.to/3nx4pL6
19-Strand bead stringing wire, gold ►amzn.to/3mI71nw
Chain-nose pliers ►amzn.to/2Kusrah
Wire cutters ►amzn.to/3akiiaZ
Ruler ►amzn.to/2KP5LS6
Steps
1. Cut a 20" piece of bead stringing wire using the wire cutters. Slide a crimp bead, a pearl, and a crimp bead onto the wire and slide all three to the center.
2. Use the chain-nose pliers to flatten the crimp bead on the bead-stringing wire to the left of the pearl so it stays in place. Slide the second crimp bead right next to the pearl, leaving no gaps. Use the chain-nose pliers to flatten the crimp bead onto the wire.
3. Slide on a crimp bead and measure ¾" from the crimp bead you flattened next to the pearl. Use the chain-nose pliers to flatten the crimp bead onto the wire.
4. Next slide on a pearl. Then slide on another crimp bead next to the pearl and flatten it in place.
5. Measure ¾" from the last crimp bead. Slide on a crimp bead and flatten it. Next slide on a pearl. Slide a crimp bead onto the wire up to the pearl and use the chain-nose pliers to flatten the crimp bead. Continue adding pearls and crimps to both sides of the necklace until you have all the pearls on.
6. To finish the ends, feed one end of the wire up through the bottom of a clamshell bead tip. Then slide on a crimp bead and measure ¾" from the last crimp. Then flatten the crimp bead in place using the chain-nose pliers. Trim the end of the wire with the wire cutters. Slide the clamshell bead tip up and over the flattened crimp bead. Use the chain-nose pliers to press the clamshell closed. Hang the lobster clasp from the clamshell loop. Rotate the loop closed with the chain-nose pliers.
7. Repeat to finish the other end of the necklace.
8. Hang the jump ring from the clamshell loop. Then use the chain-nose pliers to rotate the loop closed.
How lovely is that? We think this one makes a great gift! And you can wear it with something fancy or just a white tee and jeans. What do you think of the Pearl Illusion Necklace? What would you wear it with? Leave us a comment!
Cheers,
Jennifer & Kitty

Happy New Year Sisters! Love this. Great tip on the spacing. This is the best tutorial I’ve seen on floating necklaces. Does the bead size matter?
@TheONeilSisters
@TheONeilSisters 3 жыл бұрын
Happy New Year to you, too, Jane! And thanks for the sweet comment and great question! The bead size probably does not matter much since you measure the spacing from crimp to crimp. Just keep in mind that if the beads are smaller, you'll need more of them since each bead won't take up as much space on the bead-stringing wire. And if the beads are bigger, you'll need fewer of them. Make sense? You might adjust the spacing accordingly, too. Smaller beads might look a little lost with too much space between them, and large beads might look horsey if they are too close together. Just play with your design before you crimp! Hope that helps!

Fun idea Julu! You could do a necklace with this look by doing wirework. The construction would be similar to this project, but you would attach small lengths of chain between each pearl: runningwithsisters.com/how-to-make-a-labradorite-wirework-necklace/ Hope that helps! Jennifer & Kitty

@TheONeilSisters

Great question! We don't. We think the crimps kind of disappear as little as they are. It's a more sleek look. But you could use crimp covers and they would look like gold beads. That's be pretty too. Cheers, Jennifer & kitty

@TheONeilSisters
@TheONeilSisters 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Krystal, For this necklace, you'll need Bead Stringing Wire like this: amzn.to/2SB0Etd Usually wire that has a size like "20 gauge" is bendable wire that is used for wire wrapping. Here's a video we made explaining what the different kinds of jewelry wires are: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZOUo32di7Oama8 And here's a link to the complete how-to for this Pearl Illusion Necklace: runningwithsisters.com/how-to-make-a-pearl-illusion-necklace/ Your jump rings should work fine! Great question Krystal! That sounds like this package of Bead Stringing Wire: amzn.to/2S21Cyq Yes that would work fine. The thickness of the wire is slightly different but shouldn't matter. Just make sure it fits through your beads and crimps. Cheers, Jennifer & Kitty

Great question! You can try to flatten the crimp beads with round-nose pliers and see if it works for you. We suggest chain-nose pliers because their flat surface perfectly flattens the crimps. Maybe do a test and see if you can manage with the round-nose pliers. Here's the complete how-to on our blog: runningwithsisters.com/how-to-make-a-pearl-illusion-necklace/ Good luck! Jennifer & Kitty

Could you use real pearls to make this necklace? I want to try this with a pearl bracelet I have that broke but I’ve heard they should only be strung using a real silk thread.
@TheONeilSisters
@TheONeilSisters 2 жыл бұрын
Great question! Pearls have very small holes drilled in them so often they only fit on thread. For this necklace design, you could try a very thin bead stringing wire like Beadalon with a .010" or .012" diameter. It looks like this: amzn.to/3DMhffi That first number "0.012 in" on the package is the diameter of the bead stringing wire. Here's a video we made about selecting Bead Stringing Wire: runningwithsisters.com/bead-stringing-wire/ For crimps, you'll want small ones like size #1. They look like this: amzn.to/3lR39my Here's the complete how-to for this necklace on our blog: runningwithsisters.com/how-to-make-a-pearl-illusion-necklace/ Hope that helps! Jennifer & Kitty

@TheONeilSisters Жыл бұрын
That's an interesting idea Roberta! We've never tried it but you could use GS-Hypo glue. It has a needle-fine applicator tip and works well for jewelry. It looks like this: amzn.to/3Ji57GV We suggest placing a dab on the wire where you want the bead then sliding the bead over the glue. Let us know how it works! Jennifer & Kitty
