I’ve done this before with garden centre mugo pine material and it didn’t end well, I cut off a similar amount of branches to you and the tree slowly died. I’d maybe spray with SB invigorator to try and give the tree a boost, and maybe a copper fungicide later on. Some say mugos respond well to being heavily pruned but I think some varieties in particular are a bit fussy so I’d just be careful in future. Enjoyed the video though, keep it up!

Very nice detailed video. My first mugo was soo much fun but ALOT of decisions went into it just like urs. It is a complicated mess but u summed it up very nicely. Looks as if my first has died all needles went brown and it was looking to be an amazing full cascade. Good thing i never spent the money to put it in its final pot. Will u be selling lime sulfur on ur website? And ship to the US? Great video and u guys should do more nursery stock videos together so we can see the both of u style 2 trees at once. Good idea

I love mugo pines no matter what I do they just give up on me. This last time was the longest I had one five months before the intense summer heat got to them. Outstanding work by the way.

They can be tricky but the more I learn about Pines the easier they are getting. They have to be strong before you work on them... like bursting with growth! That way we dont slow them down. If they are not strong, we work on getting them happy 😊

Hi - I really like your videos about trees for Bonsai. So many species to choose. The more that I learn, the clearer it becomes that it may take multiple years and growing seasons to develop a bonsai tree. I have watched dozens of videos about bonsai, but I would really like to see more videos about the life of the trees sequenced over multiple growing seasons. When I see you style a tree, or re-pot a tree, it would be great to see the after care over time, and what the tree looks like later in the year, over several months, or over multiple years and growing seasons. If you are working on a particular tree now, what did that tree look like 3 or 5 years ago? I'm sorry if that becomes a video editing nightmare. Anyway, your videos are very helpful and informative.

Thanks Xavier! Personally.... I am not the biggest fan of cascades in general with Bonsai... I appreciate them and can understand how they are inspired by trees on the side of a cliff or something... I think unless a tree REALLY has a big sweep where it would be a big shame not to cascade it... I don't consider making one 😊 This is just me though!!

I did a Experiment On apple trees seeds when growing them I made a tea out of dead leaves of other tree and pine needles and some other types tree leaves and other ingredients only gave it to one of them wish I could show you the awesome results.

I just found a Mugo Pine at a garden center today. It's now mid-October and I live on Long Island, which is on the cusp between zone 4 and zone 5 (USA). This tree will need to live outdoors this winter. I want to do all the work on this tree similar to yours in the video. Should I wait until spring (March / April) or can I work on it now to do the top trimming, and styling ?

Hi 🤚 I love the video on pines it’s all good 🌲 There is one thing that bothers me people always try to create a bonsai from a small pine always reflecting on to many Branches and inverse taper Etc them scalp them to nothing 🌳 Then scalp them to 2 or 3 branches. The pines tend to grow with bar branches and bumps it’s the growth habit It’s hard to prune them and make the scars look ok . Great video all the same but I guess I’m more of natural tree looking guy than most 🌲 I would prefer a unique trunk rather than loads of pruning scars witch won’t heal in 50 years . I think if you wish to achieve this "perfect" look in a shorter space of time, seek trees that have been developed specifically for Bonsai and not from a garden centre. You are very right! Sometimes I like the challenge that comes with tricky material like this to see what I can make of it 😊🌲❤️

Very good point 👋🌳🌳 Stay cool . Also the reduced area in nursery’s is always worth a look Especially for yew trees with some browning of the foliage witch won’t concern us to much. Your very right I totally forgot the price difference. The problem with the yew trees they always seem to be in terrible black dirt so they get waterlogged very easy . I bare rooted five in spring last year into pumice Akadama lava rock the usual mix you now the crack . It’s improved them 10 fold ready to style soon as it stops raining in Dorset 😀 Regards Shaun 👋👍

This is normal when you are getting into Bonsai 😊 Trees really dont need repotted that often, I think with Pines especially they are very fussy and they need to be done with care! You should check out a guy called Dan Robinson! He never repots his trees and he has a very unique style of Bonsai!
