How to make a power regulator for Hot glue, Hot Wire, and Soldering iron

This is my power regulator I just made to use in my hobby room for different things like my hot glue gun, soldering iron, and Hot wire foam cutter. It only cost about 7.00 to make and can handle up to 600 Watts according to the package. 5.99 dimmer at lowes, and 1.08 extension cord from Dollar tree. have fun and show some thumbs up if you like!

I plan to make a hot wire cutter from a PSU from an old desktop computer. It's a 500W PSU and I guess it's capable to output at least 10A at 12V, even more at 5V. How should I regulate the power to it? Would it work to use a mosfet and pwm generated from a 555 timer or an Arduino or similar?

A brushed esc would be the easiest way... with a servo tester to control it.

womackke I didn't have a brushed esc, but I got it to work fine with a mosfet and arduino or attiny85 chip. For wire I used a strand from an old piece of bicycle braking wire :).

Is it wise to have a 240v (or 110v in the usa) hot wire cutter?

No that is crazy the craziest part being its ac...but I guess I wasn't clear but for foam cutting you will want to plug a 12 volt power supply into this...like a old cell phone charger plug. one of those big blocky ones. Ill make a video on that! but thanks for the comment...please no one try to go strait from this to their hot wire cutter :-)
