I bought these same inserts you’re using last year with hopes of coming up with a planter around them but never figured it out. This video is super helpful, thank you

I think you are undervaluing your time. Look online and see what they are selling for in the stores like pottery barn and hobby lobby. That will give you a better idea of what they are actually worth. Just a suggestion. Thanks for sharing, great build, very well explained.

I appreciate the encouragement. I have seen that these will sell $20-$30 higher than I recommended the price at. For more complicated builds I typically charge $60-$80/hr it really depends on the piece. I really appreciate the support.

I would like to see you do a build and price break down on a double seater bench with table in the center.

Would like to know - did you use Cedar or PT fence pickets? Can’t find Cedar fence pickets in my local Lowe’s store 😢 only PT
@cedarriverwoodworking8 ай бұрын
I used cedar, but pressure treated will work well also.
@monkeyman82657 ай бұрын
You got a better chance of finding a unicorn before you find cedar pickets in my area. Only pressure treated pine available near me.
@cedarriverwoodworking7 ай бұрын
I've heard that a few times. You can absolutely use pressure treated pickets for these builds too.

In terms of safety on the chop saw, the recommended safe operating method is to allow the blade to completely stop before lifting for that very reason. Also, whenever possible, set your stop block and cut piece to the side of the blade opposite of the control. That way, you get the best possible grip on the control handle and use your index and middle fingers to engage the control rather than weaker ring and little fingers. It's a small thing, and I see plenty of guys do it. But if we're making safety recommendations, let's go with best suggested practices.

The problem with fence pickets is, they look okay new but after a season of sitting in the weather they shrink, and crack and get discolored. Your perfect joints and corners won't look that way in a year. Fence pickets are basically garbage wood.

You are absolutely correct. However the point of the channel isn't to show beginners how to make heirloom furniture, it's to get people in the shop, comfortable with their tools, and get more comfortable with selling projects to further their hobbies.

Selling people planters that won't hold up is no way to establish yourself as a trustworthy maker. @@cedarriverwoodworking

Also, in part it is up to the buyer to apply some preventative maintenance on these items if they wish for them to continue to look good.
@patrickhaupt57238 ай бұрын
No mention of that in the video. What you should tell people is that the real money isn't in the actual making and selling of goods, it's making videos to post on youtube. @@Majesticmountainarts

@@cedarriverwoodworking just giving you shit. By the way, I have that cedar box as one of my videos. I’m kind of just half-assing KZbin at the moment. Keep going back and forth on whether I want to actually take the time to grow the channel.
