My color choice? Minwax's Red Mahogany. Looks great on pine, birch, and I'm sure many other woods, too. I'm currently building a "customized" patio chair for my living room, almost in the Morrison-style. It, too, will be stained with red mahogany, as I already have the seat cushion from Amazon. By the way, I'm also in the Guild.

I will take a look at that stain. My deck that these sit on is painted red, So I've gone with black with grey cushions. It's a great community and tons of information available. Glad to have you.

I was thinking, if you could lightly torch burn the wood.., and stain them like a tangerine, or burnt orange color .. or a light grey color 🤷.. either way!, your project looks great!. .. Good job!!. .

That's a good looking bench/sofa, I'm probably going to make one myself. I made a set of 2 of the chairs but I also made a little table to go with the set. The table is made with 2x4's also but on the sides and lid I made them lighter by resawing the 2x4's into 1x4's so it would match the chairs. The table will also store the cushions when not in use. Pricing for me is not that easy, I priced the set with table at $250 and realized I should have charged more so I think the next set will go for $350. I don't know if that's a good price though, what do you think? On your sofa/bench i haven't seen Cabot but if people are going with that it might be worth checking out. Thanks again for the builds and stay safe.💯😁

I like the idea of cushion storage! I would be interested in how your end table looks. As far as pricing goes my typical formula is (material+time)x1.2= price. So the 1.2 multiplier gives you a little mark up without gouging people. Then you determine what your time is worth. I think $350 is a decent price though.

@@cedarriverwoodworking I made a frame for the table and started adding to it. The top and bottom parts of the frame are identical but soon realized the top looked too bulky on the entrance so I trimmed it after I put it together so it would give the opening more room. I'm going to do that part differently on the next one. The measurements are 22" x 23" on the inside from side to side. So 4 boards @ 22" then 4 more @ 16 5/8" and 4 @ 14" for the height. Everything is made from 2x4 btw. Then 4 boards @ 24 3/8" resawn for the longer sides going horizontal and 4 more resawn @ 22" for the shorter sides. I put 3 full size 2x4 across the bottom for support @ 16 5/8". I still need to make the lid and add 4 legs to the bottom to get it off the ground. Probably going to cut them out of 2x4 tapered and angled towards the center. I think it might look good like that but we will see. I've been super busy lately and haven't been able to finish it yet. What do you think, I think it will look good with it but not everyone likes the same thing and that's ok. Anyway, if you want to know anything else just let me know. Happy building and stay safe 💯😁

Good demo of process how's & why's. Thanks. I'm thinking Cabot stain/sealer on this kind of project. Is there a better option? A friend has asked me to make a 4 chair set of this basic style. Pricing is somewhat materials-cost-based, right? How much did this lumber run?
@cedarriverwoodworking

That's the second recommendation for Cabot, i'll need to check it out. For this bench/sofa it was about $70 in materials.

In my humble opinion, some lap joints on the leg assembly would have made the bench a little more sturdy.

How much do you sell that outside sofa for?
@cedarriverwoodworking
@cedarriverwoodworking 3 ай бұрын
I haven't sold any of them but I would say that $150 would be an alright price and with 2 chairs $300, would probably be a good price.

I should have spaced down from the top only and not attached the bottom board until last. It was my fault and is corrected in the plans.
