Thank you! I had found one of Ana Whites but hers wasn’t long enough. This one is 52” I believe, right? So, that’s perfect for my living room if so! I’m a nervous wreck but I’m going to try it! The cuts are what doesn’t make sense to me but I think I can pay Lowe’s to do my cuts for me. I just am crossing my fingers the dimensions are correct. If not, no biggie. I suppose I can just go back and have it fixed or buy another board and do that part over. Either way, still will be cheaper than buying a coffee table at the furniture store anywhere! Thanks a bunch!

Hey Derek. Would like to say thanks for posting this video. It gave me a better idea in what I am doing. I bought the Krig vise which made it more secure when screwing it. My lumber was Bruce. I didn't use the exact measurement on Ana white site it was too low. Anyway it came out great. Thanks again.

I recently bought one and don't quite like the stain, looks blotchy and the putty isn't stained...have any suggestions? I don't even know where to start. Should I sand down the original stain and restain, then add poly? ...If I sound like I don't know what i'm talking about it's because I don't LOL ...I was hoping to see your full stain process but you cut it short :(
@turnintoo7887
@turnintoo7887 9 жыл бұрын
+steadypacemina If you don't like the stain, I think you could probably sand off as much as you can and reapply a new stain. I only added one coat of stain, because I wanted a lighter brown, but you can add several coats to make it as dark as you like. I would add a lacquer finish. I found that it works way better over time especially. Add at least 3 or 4 coats.

Bravo! Really nice, simple table that doesn't require advanced skills or tools. I would probably like add wood glue between the top boards and bottom boards. Also, if you stain with a dark stain first, then scrape it off, then stain again with a lighter stain you get a lot more wood grain and it looks antiqued. Don't forget to distress toy table too. That's the fun part!

Great video. How do you attach the table top to the bottom frame once you're done staining the lower half?
@turnintoo7887
@turnintoo7887 8 жыл бұрын
+NoahCanHelp I turn it all upside down and attach it using some wood glue (use clamps if possible) and 2.5" screws. 3 on each side and then at least 6 on each end....the more the better. Sorry I wasn't able to put this on the video.
@MrTripleD3
@MrTripleD3 7 жыл бұрын
That is not true about "the more the better." You should really read more about expansion and contraction of wood before you do something like this. You should also look up different methods for attaching table tops. Putting a bunch of screws into a table top and screwing down into the apron/frame will result in big problems down the road. That is a pretty wide piece of wood, and in turn will expand quite a bit when humidity goes up. If you screw it down directly into the table rather than use fasteners designed for attaching table tops that allow the wood to move, your table top will start to split, bow, crack, or possibly the frame. Water is a stronger force than wood so eventually some area of your table will fail if you don't account for the humidity changes of the wood

+Ang ipp I purchased the wood at either Lowes or Home Depot. I try and use all the same wood, in this case I couldn't get 2x2 in pine, so I had to use what they had (douglas fir). Technically the 2x2's are called furring strips. The main reason I try and use the same species is to keep the stain a uniform color. I have never used spruce before. I have ripped my own 2x2's and 2x4's from left over 2x6's or 2x12's etc. That is another way to keep the species all the same. Just a lot more work.

+redemptionsong123 I used pine for everything except for the 2x2's. They were Douglas fur. You should be able to find what you need at Lowe's, Home Depot or McCoys. They all carry different sizes of the same kinds of lumber. I would recommend using pine.

with 2.5" screws. just put the table upside down on top of the table top and put screws in all along the frame. I would drill pilot holes first though or you will have a tough time with it.

Have you done pocket holes on the x’s or is the method in the video the route you prefer?
@turnintoo7887
@turnintoo7887 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Cody! Yes I did try the pocket holes for the X’s. I would fill the holes with stainable wood filler. But I’ve stuck with this method. Just saves a little time and it’s effective. I’ll be doing the X end table video pretty soon here and I’ll use the same method for the X’s. I’ve made about a hundred of these X tables and I learn new ways of assembling them. But I can put them together in my sleep pretty much. I’ll have that video up within a week or so. Hope that helps!
