great design. I just made the table. I figured the dimensions out by digging in the comments and checking the video several times. I made it 48x30 x 16 height. I painted the legs with varathane expresso gel Stain and the table of early american + 3 coats of poly.

So simple. I might do this but instead of the 2x6 on top, make a nice frame to cover the side supports and lay in a table top glass. Maybe enclose the sides with acrylic sheets to make a "display" coffee table... so many options for this simple table.

I have built many similar pieces of furniture and I always like to inset the cross pieces all around with a 1/2 inch inset. Makes the legs set out and looks better that way to me.... You asked for suggestions....
@decastrolaw4 жыл бұрын
Can you explain the idea of the 1/2 inch inset a little more? I think I understand what you mean but I'd like to see it. Do you have photos or plans?
@dannywilsher41654 жыл бұрын
@@decastrolaw Sure, if you see how the legs on this table are flush with the outside of the table top. What I was suggesting was to make them set to the inside 1/2 inch both directions from the corner. In other words the top overhangs 1/2 inch over the legs. Hope this helps.... I have lots of videos the would show this but I never seem to get around to downloading them.
@decastrolaw4 жыл бұрын
@@dannywilsher4165 So just cut the table 1 inch larger, so it will overhang by 1/2 inch on all sides? (Or shrink the frame?) Thanks so much.

I always use a pre-stain conditioner on pine to avoid that blotchy appearance. That or apply a coat of shellac and then use a gel stain on top of it to have a more uniform finish.

Do you have any issues with the table being soft wood? Im currently drawing up plans for a similar coffee table but am worried that by using pine it will dent easily.
@wills91086 жыл бұрын
with a normal stain finish, any dents, scrapes etc, just add character to a this type of coffee table. if you don't want any dents on your finished surface, just use liquid glass, or a full clear epoxy finish and you'll have a super hard surface that won't scratch or dent, but will show off the finished wood underneath
