Learn how to make a silicone soap mold for cold process soap making. Make your own silicone soap mold so you can save money and create the perfect size bar of soap.
Welcome to I Dream in Soap. In this cold process soap making tutorial, I show you how to make a silicone soap mold liner. It's quite long as I do go into how to calculate the size of the 'box frame' and try to give as much information as I can so that you can make your own mold / mould.
I have produced an annotated version of how to calculate all the measurements you need if you would like a copy of it (no charge, just download it, it's just a pdf file). You can download it from my website here:
www.idreaminso...
I try to give lots of hints and tips in all of my videos, so hopefully, you can use some of the techniques in this cold process soap making tutorial in your own soap making.
I hope you enjoy the video. I'd love it if you would give me a thumbs up, subscribe to my channel and ring the notification bell this helps me to grow my channel. If you have any comments or question please leave them in the comment section below and I will get back to you.

Disclaimer
Although my cold process soap making tutorials are of a tutorial nature, they are intended for people who have a good understanding of making cold process soap. The information given is based on what works for me, however, there are lots of variables associated with cold process soap making and I therefore, take no responsibility for the results achieved when using the techniques or methods explained in these tutorials. Cold process soap involves the necessary use of sodium Hydroxide (lye) which is a very dangerous substance. Before attempting and cold process soap making you should ensure you are fully aware of the lye safety procedures and always wear the correct safety equipment when making soap.

This is so helpful Lisa! You are such a fantastic, thorough teacher!!! One thing I did with my 2 part silicone was added mica to 1 part before I mixed it together so then you could tell when it was evenly mixed

I am as thrilled as others have commented that they are. I use to use a silicone with less tear strength. It was a green one. I have some cherub sculptures that have undercuts and I need a stretchable silicone rubber as the mold. I am so dumb. I never thought of making a wooden case to hold the mold in. Now, I can proceed with my molds. I have about 15 things to make molds of, so you have saved me considerable time!!!

Thank you for your comment. Yes it's a tricky one trying to decide how much info to put in. I based it on the fact that I would be disappointed if I went to the effort to make a mould and then it produced soap that didn't have smooth sides, or I damaged the soap getting it out of the mould because the silicone was too stiff. But I do appreciate that some people may find it too detailed. Thank you for taking the time to comment and I'm pleased you found it useful

An excellent tutorial, Lisa! Smart move to include space for the endpieces you usually cut off. 💡 In one of your comments, you mention silicone being an "escape artist". 🤣 I learned from my silicone provider that you can use "plasticine" (the clay you hate as a child to work with. It stays soft and sticks to everything + your fingers end up the colour of the clay) to seal off the borders of your object - in this case, where the edges of the inner box are glued to the inside of the outer box. Probably you knew that already but chose not to use it to use clay to keep the edges sharp. The clay also is very handy when making embeds; you can use it instead of glue (removable, and doesn't damage the object, nor the box you pour in) to prevent those light-weight objects from getting afloat in the silicone. I started making silicone (embed) moulds long before Aliexpress came alive and made importing soap moulds more affordable. LOL I can tell you that removing fresh strawberries from the freshly poured mould is a messy process. 🤣🤢 Keep up the good work Lisa. It's noble to share your knowledge!
@IDreamInSoap
@IDreamInSoap 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Corry, yes as you say I like nice square corners on my molds, hence the foam board. But I do have Plasticine and use it now and again, the color transfer annoys me though, I can't always get it off of the molds when they're made. I've never made the little berry embeds, but I can just imagine how delightful it is getting all the little bits out :-)

Thanks for a great tutorial. I can adapt it for another purpose - shallow trays for dehydrating liquidy things like smoothies or stock to make fruit leather and buillon powder etc. Will be even easier. With a shallow edge I don't have to make an inner box but just use a 5-10mm sheet of foam board.

This will work perfectly, it's always so handy to just make a liner just to fit what you need.

Oooh, I hope you do. Making the box is the hardest bit, and make sure you seal everything really well, silicone squeezes out of the tiniest gaps

Oh goodness, this gives me hope! Can I use the wooden soap mould I plan to use to make soap as the outside/base part of this silicone mould? Could that save a step and insure a perfect fit? I am serious about following this video, thank you so much for your kind help on this channel!

I truly appreciate all that you do. The explanations are excellent. I wonder if it would just be cheaper and easier to buy the cupcake molds or to try and make them? I feel like those would be quite complicated
@IDreamInSoap

I think cupcake mould would be difficult to make as you would use a lot of silicone. If it was me and I wanted some I would just buy them as they're fairly cheap
