This simple toadstool fairy house project is perfect for beginners or intermediate makers. This video gives the step by step instructions to build the basic shape with some simple decorations like mini mushrooms and round windows so you can keep it simple or go wild and have fun with all the details and decorations you add. From flowers and grass to spots or tiles on the roof, make your house uniquely yours.
You can keep this as a simple decoration (maybe for the garden?!) or turn the house into a cute tea light holder or box with the roof as a lid, the choice is yours.

I loved watching you create the fairy house. I am working with cement to make fairy houses that can stay outside year long but I have learned a great deal from watching you add the details to your creations. Thank you for posting your videos.

I didn't put holes in the roof, just the windows but you absolutely could ☺️ My daughter glazed this one after it was fired. You could do it any colours you wanted 🙂

Is the liquid stuff you use as glue just water or is it water together with clay?

Love this video. This is pottery clay you’re using right? And what kind of fabric is that that you used to roll on?

Yes, it's a lightly grogged stoneware pottery clay that's great for hand building. I just use old pillow cases to roll out on ☺️

Great tutorial, I really liked the little details like making the door look like wood. I have a question about the clay; it looks like you used potter's clay which requires firing to complete the drying process, correct? If so, do you have any recommendations for a suitable clay that does not require firing for those of us who do not have access to a kiln?

Hmmm, I don't know of another material that would be suitable for use with a proper tea light with flame but for an led tea light you could use air drying clay like das then paint with acrylics... although it won't be as robust. Polymer clay might also work but you may have to adjust how you build as shapes will need to be baked before being added to.... I don't know polymer clay well at all but there are lots of tutorials on KZbin for it too 😊 Another possible alternative if you don't have a kiln but want to try clay is kilnshare.com It may be able to help find a kiln you can hire. Hope that helps.

Is this air dry clay?

No, I use a lightly grogged stoneware clay that's fired in the kiln once dry.
