I see many producers grouping the kick and bass(es) together, keeping the snare and hats in a different group. I have done this too, but I'm not sure I see why. Do you have any thoughts on this tradition?
@SynthwavePro3 жыл бұрын
@@AUTOSAD777 Hi there, Autosad, I think this has a lot to do with frequency ranges. Grouping the (low frequency instruments) together prevents unwanted compression of the higher frequency instruments like snares, hats, crashes etc...
@AUTOSAD7773 жыл бұрын
@@SynthwavePro Thanks. I also thought maybe side-chaining had an impact on this as well.

You can automate the lfo in FL studio by linking the lfo to the mod wheel, then going into options, last tweeked, create automation clip, then edit the automation.

This is such an iconic bass sound, I'm surprised that it's so seldom found in preset packs, even in those that were made specifically for synthwave. Thanks for the tutorial. 👍
@brianray6022 жыл бұрын
You absolutely can automate the LFO. Just right click on the dot on the LFO curve and go down to "Modulate Curve" and then select what parameter you'd like to modulate the curve with (such as LFO 2 or ENV 2).

Hey, great video! Just wanted to add that as of now, you can in fact automate the LFO with another LFO, just drag and drop on to the grab point of the LFO you're automating!

Damn, that patch sounds amazing! There's one thing you can change to get the smearing effect with just one oscillator in Serum. If you increase the number of unison to 2 and then ajust the detune knob, you can get the exact same effect without having to keep the two oscillator at the same cents level.

Hi Nate, at 0:30 we're playing the finalized version of the preset wit side chaining. At 10:25 we haven't yet added any side chaining to the signal.

Exactly what i needed. I use Synthmaster 2 which is great for Synthwave production, and almost everything in your video is easy to apply because it's very similar. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Juste one question : for your Sub Oscillator, you are using a side chain or LFO ?
@SynthwavePro2 жыл бұрын
So happy this was useful. Either side chain or LFO work well. I'd use the LFO - cleaner with less pops and clicks.

Another great and informative video, do you upload your synthwave on any streaming services?

Hi Robert, Thanks for the comment. To answer your question no - Honestly, I've stayed away because of the overall business model of streaming services.

In what cases do you favor using a Sub bass patch in your productions in addition to the main bass? To my ears, the Serum bass patch once you added the Sub square has enough weight to carry a track without overpowering it. Looking forward to your thoughts on this. Thanks!
@SynthwavePro3 жыл бұрын
I think the sub bass oscillator would have been enough. Then again, it really depends on the type of track you're writing. It's tempting to add layers upon layers of bass (sub bass) - when in doubt, perhaps less is more..

@@SynthwavePro totally agree. Personally I prefer a less is more approach. Thanks for your reply!

Any specific reason you use the LFO instead of the envelopes to control the cutoff? Or is it just preference?
@SynthwavePro Жыл бұрын
Hi Greg, Having not watched the tutorial video, ( I hate watching my vids) I'll assume I wanted the LFO to repeat while pressing a single note. An envelope would need note input every single time.

The first time you hit play … how do you get the base to side chain without the kick or snare playing ?
@AutPen38 Жыл бұрын
I think he's running a plugin like kickstart or LFO tool to duck the volume of the bass without any connection to the kick drum. Personally I find that effect is distracting and unnatural, as I generally only want the bass volume to be ducked when the kick is playing at the same time, but I guess it's just a matter of taste.
@pattyorigami Жыл бұрын
I know this is probably a long shot request, but could you show how to replicate this in LMMS using Triple Oscillator?
@SynthwavePro Жыл бұрын
Hey Patty, I'm not an LMMN user..But most synth have similar controls and modules.... Oscillator, filter, env and LFO + effects...
@pattyorigami Жыл бұрын
@Synthwave Pro Thanks for taking the time to respond. I do see the similarities and can implement much of what you did here, but I get a little hung up on the LFO part because the triple oscillator in LMMS seems to lack some of the functionality of what you are using. I'm just not sure if there's a way to replicate what you're doing here with the built-in LFO controls or if I'll need to utilize some plugin. Perhaps it's just the limitation of using free software, lol! Thanks for a great tutorial, nonetheless!
