As someone who is developing a TCG for 3 years now, I find this extremely good for people that still are in early stages.

Thanks. Some of the things can feel obvious, but when you are just starting, it can be a valuable lesson.

That D&D reference was very spot on. As a D&D player, the consequences or aftermath of making a decision is so enduring. Putting that into card games definitely would make a lot of "oohs" and "ahhs" as the game persists.

Thank you. We are really trying to replicate that energy. It will never be exactly the same in a card format but that unpredictability is a source of fun that we are focusing on.
@NEXGENTCG3 жыл бұрын
@@ShardTCG The energy may not be replicated one on one but I found that playing a free for all with 4 or more players gives off the same energy. Because what effects that occurred a few turns ago can impact the game in the next few turns or even certain opponents. However, it all depends on the game and how it's played. :)

Loved your video, my dude. Keep up the good work! You talk about players hating things about your game and how it can be a good thing. I'd like to provide a tidbit from Mark Rosewater's 2016 GDC talk Twenty Years, Twenty Lessons: "Don't worry that the players will hate something. Worry that no one will love anything." I feel like this is essentially what you were driving at. Someone will hate the annoying card, but someone else will love it because it's annoying. Hatred for certain parts of your game can be a barometer for judging what may or may not be working, but one must take care and beware the vocal minority. What one player hates, another may love. I also really recommend the talk if you haven't seen it. It's a great resource.

Yes I love that talk he did. I try not to straight up copy what he says, but from my personal experience I have found it very true. So I shared his knowledge once I could confirm it for myself. But yes his 20 lessons helped me a lot when I started making Shard.

11:45 Getting extra benefits if your opponent just happens to certain a certain archetype sounds saying "Protection from color" -effects in Magic are a good play design.

Definitely! There are so many nuances that can be incorporated into your own TCG that we are just spoilt for choice.

@@admincsrc1553 thank you so much. We have something big planned for the community. It goes beyond Shard, and we hope it will be the catalyst for future TCG creators. I haven't spoke of it to anyone yet so I will say no more. Just a little teaser for you for your kind words 😉
