Making right now, the bigger the skull the easier. Made ours a little too small, hope it turns out okay. 🤞🏽 Update: I redid the skulls to make them larger and easier to do. Make sure you wash and dry your shirt first so it’s more absorbent. Also, WET YOUR SHIRT (make it damp but not drenched). The colors will literally run off the cloth if not properly prepped. Learned the hard way. GL if you try. Still waiting to see if our skulls look like skulls lol. Finished Update: Our skulls look like happy faces with large triangle noses 😂🙈 Unless you’re going to be doing this several times to get the technique right, I wouldn’t recommend.

You should show the finished product, not the premade skull t-shirt. On the one you made, which was wet, you used blue marker and it stained it a lot. I was really curious how it was gonna look like.

I think we need an updated version of this video. A start to finish video showing tips on how to get the skull more defined as well as the actual shirt that was dyed in the end. It would give people a more accurate description on the trials and errors that could occur. I would really like to try the skull design but seen a lot of the comments saying theirs did not turn out. If anyone can share any advice on one they have done or even better a link to video/photo would be helpful. Thanks.

@Ninja Turtle 365 What is the logo design made out of? Is it embroidered? Screen printed? Dyed? If it's dyed then it's highly likely the design will change color if you dye the shirt. If it's embroidered, chances are that the thread is polyester and will repel the dye, so you should be able to dye over it. Same if it's screen printed ... it should repel the dye. We hope this helps!

@TulipColorCrafts
@TulipColorCrafts 6 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thanks so much for reaching out! Sometimes it just takes a little practice. =) To get that super defined skull shape, you'll really want to over exaggerate the angles/edges of the skull. Try making them super defined rather than smooth curves and really try to stick to those hard angles when pinching the fabric along the marker line. Another reason could be if you didn't bind the fabric tight enough with the rubber bands or zip ties. You'll want to secure it as tightly as possible. Also, if your shirt was super damp, that also affects the design. The more damp it is, the more the dye will permeate and flow through the fabric, creating softer designs. Does that make sense? So perhaps try only slightly dampening your shirt or dry dyeing it for more defined shapes. When the fabric is dry the dye won't flow as much and it will create a much more defined shape! We hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any other questions ... good luck with your project!

Hi Mavis ... Unfortunately, we can't instruct you on how to use the dyes in your local area because we aren't familiar with them, but with Tulip One-Step Dyes, you don't need to mix soda ash before dyeing your fabric because soda ash is already in the dye solution. You can try ordering some Tulip dye from our Hobby Shop in California ... Please contact Vickie Recchia at vrecchia@ilovetocreate.com to see about ordering. Good luck!

Hi there ... you can absolutely dye a dry shirt as well. It doesn't have to be damp. A damp shirt just allows the dye to saturate more of the fabric. Just make sure the shirt has been washed (if it's new) before dyeing. We hope this helps! Let us know if you have any more questions.

Hi and im new to tie dye and i just brought a tulip rainbow kit which is awesome XD but i have one question. you see every tutorials on youtube they all add warm water and soda ash, and im jus wondering...do you need to add soda ash for it to absorb the color better?
@TulipColorCrafts
@TulipColorCrafts 9 жыл бұрын
Hi there ... Tulip One-Step Dye actually has soda ash mixed into the dye powder so all you need to do is add water, shake to mix and apply to fabric. It really is that easy! Just make sure to prewash your fabric (without fabric softener) before dyeing and once you've dyed your fabric, cover it and allow the dye to set for the recommended amount of time for best results. Good luck!
@404HandleNotFound
@404HandleNotFound 8 жыл бұрын
Tulip dye doesn't need that mixed in but if you ever use Jacquard brand dye, they give you the soda ash separately and it has to be mixed with warm water and then whatever you're dying has to soak for 20 minutes, then you can dye your items. :) I've used both kits, so I know a little about them. I personally like Jacquard better because the colors are more vibrant but Tulip is good too. The price runs about the same as well. Hope that helped you a little.

a lot of other tutorials have said that you need to pre-soak the shirt in soda ash solution... is that the case with this project too? I heard you say you "pre-washed it and left the shirt damp". or do the tulip dyes not require this to be done in preparation for tie dying?

@TulipColorCrafts
@TulipColorCrafts 7 жыл бұрын
Hi there ... It's not a stupid question! =) You can actually dye the shirt wet or dry, but in this video Lauri did leave the shirt damp when adding dye. Keeping it damp allows the dye to disburse throughout the fabric easier, while dyeing it dry keeps the dye more concentrated in the sections it's applied. We hope this helps!
