Do you need to take the cotton cover off before charging the pad with shellac?

Judging from his initial statement, the shellac is applied to the outside of the pad/fad and absorbed in.

Anon amous by the looks he dabbles in polishing , not a professional polisher, you do remove the cover before recharging the rubber.

@@Leroyy536 There is no need to remove the cover before charging as the shellac has been filtered. ie has no bits in it. It is a good idea to remove the covering if your shellac has not been filtered. Filter your polish before using. I have been a professional restorer and conservator for 40 years

No. The filtered polish is clean and will be readily absorbed though the covering. If the polish has large particles in it, I suggest it is filtered before use

@@arcservicesantiquefurnitur6157 I’m 60 year old french polisher, I’m not attaining to the filtering of the polish, the rubber should be charged with out the cover on, after Charing the rubber with polish put the cover back on then you control how much polish coming out the rubber, by just dipping the rubber can cause problems for the the novice.
