Brilliant idea for your rig and for star gazing! We really enjoyed hanging out with you both in Q! ~Lucy

What on earth was that cat doing at the first? It just like flopped down in the driveway LOL. I really do love those chairs. You guys did a great job on them. I like the engraving too. I didn't notice that when I saw them. Course it was dark. And I am hard of seeing lol.

Nice build man! Really like that you used what you had available for tools and just got after it! The wood burning is an excellent touch!!

Awesome chairs, Scotty & Malinda! Never heard of a Viking Chair, but it looks perfect for stargazing. Thanks for showing how to make it, Scotty. Really like the etching with the wood burning tool, Malinda. They look really cool. Great job!

These are actually very comfortable to sit in but even using non treated lumber they weigh a ton! My next one Im going to try to take out a bunch of material on the back to make it lighter.

They are so heavy! Ours have gotten a little lighter with time. Lol We lug them around though...they are great conversation starters. I think that is a great idea to take out some of the board. Do you think a wood router would be a good tool for the job? I have never used one, but I am sure Scotty has one around here somewhere. Lol Just cut out big sections like you would a cabinet door?

@@SL_BA I dont think a router bit would be long enough because the board is 1 1/2' deep...thats asking a lot from a router. Im just going to make 20" or so slots (maybe 4 of them) and use a 1-1 1/2" Forsner bit at either end then use a jig saw to carefully cut the sides of the slots out, not that it will cut a lot of weight but also gives you a carry handle for the back which is the heaviest part.

Ive also found that if you cut out the bottom of the back where it hits the ground in a semi circle (leaving a 1-2" foot on either side) it will be better on the rough, uneven ground.

Good build Scotty! I like the addition of the little feet. Have made a few of them myself, and you're right, they are comfy and awesome for sitting around a fire and staring at the sky. How'd they do in Arizona? Very good job

They were very comfortable but there wasn't much of a night sky while we were in Arizona. It was just too cloudy.

What kind of wood did you use? I made one a while ago, I forget what kind of wood I used but when I sat in it, it collapsed
