Yet another great build Max. Love your channel and how simple your builds are. No complicated or expensive tools. Just straight to the point. I mean, gotta love a dude who uses a piece of wood for his straight edge instead of a ruler. lol. Thanks for the video.

Great work Max, love the way it turned out. Just an idea if you have a table saw make a cheap taper/straight line jig (Rockler has one as well) and this will save a ton of time and will make clean consistent angle cuts like you did to avoid using a jig saw for the plate design. Keep up the great work!

We’ve done a bunch of these. One thing I would recommend is go ahead and rip the 1x2 to 1 5/16 width. Takes a few extra minutes but it gives you a full 13 stripes at 17”. We don’t use a separate Union, but I may try your method. We tack in razor blades to create a barrier but I never end up with a perfectly straight line and on boards with heavy grain it crushes the grain more than it cuts into it.

Looks great, but the stars stand out really bright since the rest has the cool burn around the edges. almost would want a very light brownish or color to match the rest of the distressed colors.

One thing Max didn't mention in this video is to make sure the stars point straight up at the top when using the stencil. I made the mistake of getting that part wrong and it turned out great except that my stars points were pointing right and left. Very frustrating.

My stain seems to smear the char especially with the white which turns it Gray if I don't wipe the burn off

Did you use solid stain or semitransparent? I bought solid and the red showed the burn marks through but the white didn't allow it to show through as well. I used the tintable minwax water based.

How do you clean up the easy tack on the Union?
@jameswestii454
@jameswestii454 3 жыл бұрын
I have a sealer question for you. I don’t have a hvlp sprayer so I am stuck between spray can or brushing on a sealer. Since I use the 1/8” Baltic birch stars instead of carving the stars I am curious your opinion on what to use to seal. Brushing on polycrilic is a bit rough because it wants to puddle around the stars when the brush hits them. Then the tedious task of sanding between coats of brush on poly is not fun. Would you recommend a spray can laquer and doing 2-3 coats and not having to sand or another spray can sealant like spar urethane. Not a big fan of the Minwax poly spray cans. Want a good shine and seal but the raised stars make things a bit tough time wise. TY.

So have you had any adhering issues with the Rustoleum sealer or any thing else from sealing over the Krylon easy tac?
@joeaguilar-teacherofthewor4166
@joeaguilar-teacherofthewor4166 3 жыл бұрын
Quick question. When you mentioned that you used mineral spirits to clean off the spray Tac, I assume you used mineral spirits to clean off the template for the stars. Did you use it to clean off the spray Tac off the blue field with the stars also? I'm new at this and don't know how mineral spirits will react with the painted field if I try to clean off the spray Tac that's on the stars.

I believe he means to use it to clean off the gummy residue on the stencil so it can be reused. That's what I do as well.
