I originally watched your video on stippling and was able to do it to my duty gun. I recently started doing woodworking because my work/sleep schedule is terrible. Great job. I think I'll make the compartment box .75 inches smaller than the flag on all sides to eliminate the need for the finger slot on the bottom to open. Still love it.

Nice job! I’ve made just over 20 flags and I’m starting to get into concealment flags. It’s hard to make them and keep the price reasonable. Especially if you put foam in it and rfid lock etc.

I like it, and yes, interested in a bigger one, for at least a few guns. Also, I'm trying to figure out a way to not make it look like a compartment, so in case of a burglary it would be overlooked. Sinking it in the wall like a medicine cabinet wouldn't work in my case since my walls are logs.

Even without the concealed compartment its a great wall hanging! I also like the piston assist. Perhaps on a future one you can add the ammo compartments and a lock feature to prevent unintended opening. Thanks Again!

Generally it's better to avoid staining any surfaces that are going to receive adhesive. Normally with segmented slab pieces like that, you'd want to edge glue all the strips and the union to each other.

Have you tried carving through blue painters tape? When I want to stain a different color, that's what I do. Lay the strips down and overlap the edges just a little. I got the idea from watching you carve through paper. Give it a try.

To add to this, a friend of mine suggested Oracal Oramask Stencil Film. Carve through it, stain and peel it off. I'm cations about either though, due to the fact the painters tape peeled some stain off of one of my flags.

Crimson stain will also work if Home Depot doesn’t have Scarlett for the red stain. Had to end up going to Sherwin Williams store to purchase it and find out why some Home Depot’s don’t carry it now. Just a helpful tip. You’re gonna be good with crimson.

To keep out kids or thieves? Don't bother if it's for thieves. Won't even slow em down. For kids...just poke around hardware stores. There's dozens of options. An RFID reader, a relay and a solenoid would be my choice.

So my issue is the gas struts you linked are not strong enough to hold the lid open. My flat is made of 3/4” pine measuring 20”x37”. Did you run into any problems with them?

@@MaxF01 if its a load bearing wall then you need to add a header double 2x6 will be fine to carry on stud. if its not load bearing then just cut the stud and screw through the 1x case into the stud. install some tear away bead and done. i woule make the flag .75 bigger to cover the cut out.

I been making flags for 3 years. I don’t do the hand carved stars my hand not that steady. I buy my stars from a guy that makes them on a CNC machine then glue them on using. E-6000 glue. Also, I screw my flags with 1.25” drywall screws but I see glueing and nail gun would be much quicker. Wanting to build one with RFID lock.

Yea the hand carved stars definitely take some time and they also make my hand pretty cramped up so I definitely wouldnt be able to do many of them at a time like that.
