Hinge making is quite labour intensive yet very much worth it for the finished look and essentially is made exactly the same way they were through history. Mine were usually used plate armour though but the principle is exactly the same. Nice work!

Hey Ethan, just found this channel I normally follow you over on the NMLRA. Those Kibler SMR kits are awesome and yours is gonna be great with that patchbox. You did a fine job and it's very gratifying knowing you built it from scratch, good job. Can't wait to see it totally finished with the cherry stock.

Hi Ethan, Great video of making the patch box! What material did you guys use to make the Bean Patch box? I'm guessing some type of steel, and what thickness?

Ethan, I'm getting ready to make a patchbox like this and I'm wondering what thickness of your material is. Also curious what the dimensions of your finish patchbox is. You did a nice job on it. Thanks for the video.

I love you videos and have just started the same rifle you have. My question for you, is what type of finish did you use on the cherry stock? I've been testing scrape cherry with tru-oil, permalyn, and lye wash. I like the lye wash the best so far especially when you blush it with a heat gun. zDid you use the Permalyn?
@ILoveMuzzleloading2 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott!! Congratulations! I hope you enjoy it. I sanded, whiskered and scraped the stock for a feel I like. Then I used clear danish oil, applied several coats and scraped it back with scotchbrite. It's a really simple finish, but works so well and the stock is aging in nicely now. I considered darkening it with lye, but chose to let it age with time, the figure of my stock was just too nice to cover up. I hope this help! Reach out anytime!

I’m trying to make a patch box for my Kibler SMR . I’m beating myself to death making the hinge . I think your dad bent your hinge and I need a better view of how he bent yours .
@ILoveMuzzleloading3 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, we heated the end and bent it around with a pair of fine needle nose pliers. It is hard to get it in one go, and you need to do it to both sides of the hinge to get it even across
