I have one and it leaks along the open seam on the outside bend. Looking at yours, that bend on the outside should have been solid with the open seam on the inside. I also feel the drop angle is not enough on mine. It’s about 10 degrees which is probably why it’s leaking too

Hi mate. Cant thank Adequately Sharing your knowledge for free. I referred many shops ,Stratco and others Even ready to pay or work for free to learn but couldn’t. Please keep it up and share more If you explain more about how to find right angle by correct cutting it would be perfect

Learning a lot from your videos. Keep up the good work! What is the purpose of the shoe on the down pipe? My place has old downpipes that go straight from the gutter to ground direct into the square to round PVC. PVC fittings are concreted in and I need to replace the down pipes. obviously easier if I just connect it as is, curious if there is some building code that requires the shoe as I see it on every down pipe (except mine). Cheers!

It kicks the water away from the footing so you don't get erosion under the concrete slab.

Great video. One question, when you're marking the 2nd bend by putting the downpipe upside down against the wall (5:20). If the pop is already in the gutter. Do you just mark where the downpipe meets the back of the pop? And then add the 35mm to get the centre?
@dennisperrie Жыл бұрын
Yes that is correct. So if the first cut was 35mm then you add 35mm. So you add the matching amount.

Hey mate loving your videos, can you make video on replacing part of a rusted gutter? Currently I have one rusted exactly where the gutter joins to the down pipe. Or can you tell me what is the easiest way to fix it without replacing the hole gutter. Cheers mate 👍
@dennisperrie Жыл бұрын
It is hard because I don't have a picture but if it is a straight length you can cut the gutter each side and put in a new piece. Or you can cut it and change it to the corner just like I did on the video "how to remove downpipes and replacing the gutter on a metal roof."

Do you have a video on how to calculate angles? For example say I want a 5deg or 15deg fall on the elbow how do you work that out?

No sorry

Angle = big cut length / DP height x 90° Here: 35mm / 45mm x 90° = 70°

a helpful tip: the width of the ruler on your square is exactly 25mm. no need to mark 25mm from your line. just put the ruler on the line

they used to make squares with 30mm to and I loved those ones.

Why did you put up box when the existing double return was round pipe?

The owner wanted the square one put up he preferred the look.

How do you remove the lead pencil lines from the downpipe?
@dennisperrie9 ай бұрын
A little rubbing with the finger. but in general, you cut on them and fold them and they are not seen at the end. also don't mark them too heavy.

wtf is the deal with your 2nd bend cut being offset by the width of the DP b(which you did as 35 mm) but the bloody thing is a 45 mm DP according to you?

It gives you the fall so the water runs away

First of all you never use a grinder to cut the downpipe as in coming years it will start to rust. Second you are not leaving any tag on the back meaning your bend is relying on side rivets which will pop out bcs it hasn't got the strength it needs that tag gives the strength to the downpipe when riveted together

You can use a grinder with a cutting blade, you just need to make sure you clean the edges with a sharp chisel or piece of tin to remove the swarf. The rivets are fine especially if you put a rivet in the pop or gutter connection the downpipe stay in place. I have done 1000s of these and they have all held.
