Thank you so much. I use to have a very close friendship with a farmer family in Virginia, they were very dear to me. I used to help them to prepare bacon batches from their own porks, and apple butter as well, from scratch. And as an appreciation i got to take few batches with me. The butter was so delicious, they would even give me some more as a gift later on, just because. But now I live far from them and can’t have that fun time with them. I really miss VA and the kind of country life I used to have over there. Was searching how to make apple butter and found your video! This is beautifully made. I sent this to them and said I’ll definitely try making this myself. I hope you continue making delicious fun recipes.

Just made this recipe! My husband loved it! We buy $14 worth jars of apple butter in stores (specifically lamberts in alabama) and this recipe made 1 quart and it only costed me $6-$7 to make it! Very worth it! Just adjusted mine with 1/4 cup more of sugar because the granny smith apples were alittle bit more tangy to our liking. But very delicious! ❤️

Hi! Thank you! :) You will have a little bit of the flavor left over. You can replace it with apple cider or apple juice instead. The juice will make for a sweeter apple butter though. If you want to, you can reduce the sugar in half when using juice :)

Hi there, I've just made your recipe and it tastes really nice. Is it meant to taste quite vinegary? Also, how do you know when it is ready to put into jars? Does it firm up a bit when it cools?
@TatyanasEverydayFood8 ай бұрын
Hi! I'm so glad you enjoyed the apple butter. It shouldn't be too vinegary. If it is, try adding more sugar to balance the flavor. Some apples are sweeter than others. It will firm up a bit but not much. You can place into glass jars right away, or into plastic jars once the apple butter has cooled.

Hi! In sterilized, sealed jars, you can keep this apple butter for 2 weeks in the refrigerator. If you want to preserve them for longer, sterilize the jars and lids, fill the jars with 1/2-inch space at the top, then use the water bath method to seal the jars. I place mine into a large pot filled with water; you want the water to cover the jars by at least 2 inches. Bring to a boil and boil for 15 minutes.

Used to make Applebutter with my grandmother. First we collected about 100 bushel baskets full of apples from my great grandfather farm Next we peeled, cored and sliced all the apples and the froze them Finally on the day of, we started about 6am and built a fire with a 200 gallon copper kettle suspended We kept the fire stoked all day long, dumping in bag after bag of frozen apple as they broke down using a wooden paddle to stir. About 12 hours later, the spices were added, nutmeg, pure cinnamon oil and gelatin. We the spooned the mix into mason jars and canned the whole pot.

This looks & sounds lovely, but why is it called apple butter? In the UK, some of us call this apple sauce or pureed apples.

Thank you! It's quite a bit thicker than regular apple sauce, less liquid and more concentrated in flavor.
