In this step by step tutorial I will show how to rivet all the pieces together, install the leather strapping for the fabric liner and age the metal so that is looks distressed. This build is a beginner level for people wanting to learn how to make DIY metal costume armor.
In this series I will show the step by process of making a viking inspired helm. Join me in the shop as I layout the initial pattern on sheet metal and cut the pieces to shape. This is an excellent beginner armor project as building a helmet of this design is quite simple. I will be using brass, mild steel and showing all the armor techniques of a professional armorsmith in this series.

Question: wouldn't it be better to have the heads of the rivets on the INSIDE, and hammer the shafts down on the OUTSIDE? Especially if you don't have a pneumatic hammer, and have to do it the medieval way, with ball peen hammer and muscle?

most armour is peened on the inside from what i have seen historically. i'm totally that guy in museums crawling on the floor with my camera trying to get pictures on the inside of armour.
