I light my candles with a match. I use a tweezer to burn the rest of the match that didn’t burn. I keep it in a little bottle. When I have enough, I use the burnt matches to make black salt

I keep & use ashes from our fireplace. The wood is harvested from the forest by my husband. He is the “keeper of the flame” here - his way of protecting & caring for the family. So in spite of every marriage’s ups & downs, this is one of his acts that always feels nurturing. I like the idea of using it for protection. I add dried rosemary that grows in our garden, ground eggshells from local free range chickens, & sea salt. I like to keep as local as possible. I love the idea of also adding in incense ashes and burnt matchsticks.

For many years I was the fire keeper for my spiritual community. When I made my black salt I collected one piece of charcoal from every ceremony that I tended the fire for a year and a day. I then blended the charcoal with a course sea salt.

I love this! I like to save all of my ashes, from incense and herbs to petitions and sigils that I burn in my cauldron, and use those as a base in my salt. I make a batch with herbs for protection, with intent for the black salt. I add salt, a pinch of graveyard dirt, and a pinch of egg shells. I also separately break up a few unburnt charcoal discs into my mortar and pestle and grind then into a powder. I do this both for the properties and so the salt will be black and not gray! If you add enough, it blackens right up. :)

I like your recipe, but it's a little on the costly side for my budget. I make mine with dried orange peel, cinnamon, bay leaf, and fallen coniferous branches found around my city. I use pine resin in lieu of frankincense, as I'm broke. The smell is absolutely INTOXICATING as the spruce, pine, cedar and fir twigs/tips mingle with the warming spice scents.., well, let's just say it's DIVINE! I'll have to try yours if I ever benefit from a windfall, as gems and imported resins are not in my current budget. Thanks for all the amazing content. I've been marathoning your candle series and would love to get more candle ideas from you, if possible? I'm a big fan and your brown, green, purple, white, black and grey candles especially. As a solitary eclectic witch and wand maker, I like to feel grounded, protected, purified, and capable of using the guidance of my ancestors as I whittle away at my stash... and before bed, I fill my room with the heady scent of chamomile and lavender

Its very much ok! It doesnt need to be dark black to do the same thing.i dont know about you but i personally have a fire pit outside my family uses and i take the leftover burned wood from there thats black and keep it for my black salt.
@DollyKauionalani2 жыл бұрын
It is absolutely okay! Black salt doesn't have to be black. It's just prettier if it is. What I like to do to make it darker, is I'll break up an unburnt charcoal tablet in my mortar and pestle, and ground it into a powder. Add that to your incense ashes if you want it blacker, then you get the properties of the charcoal too. If you don't want that mess, it's totally cool!
