I agree! He did a aftermarket head test now he needs to do a factory head test with peanut ports, 781's, vortec heads, and maybe some 088's. Do the test with a good street cam like a 224 duration. No need to pic a cam to see where they all max out at.

I wish BBC engines were cheap in my area at the scrap yards. My local U Pick it charges $750 for a BBC, but a Gen III 5.3 is $450 out the door. So, at least in my area, it’s much cheaper to go LS. Grab a 5.3, clean it up, open the rings, (or what I personally do is re-ring the slugs), add a cam, add a cheap snail, enjoy your 800 or so HP for around $1600. That’s my go to formula lol. I’ve built that exact setup about half a dozen times so far; that’s what funds my grudge car when I break stuff. I can make anywhere from $6500-$11,000 on the side throwing that setup together and then dropping it into a customer supplied chassis. Of course I also do the tuning for them and turn all the wrenches, but they supply everything else for the swap. Literally the only hard components I provide are the engine, ready to run, the turbo system which as I said typically is just a cheap journal bearing unit with a generic A2A and aluminum bead rolled plumbing with standard silicone couplers. I do use quality oil line components though as that is mission critical. But I’ve never had one complaint and the only one that I know of that has had any kind of serious failure was 100% user error on the owner. Some people seem to think all you need to do to make power is create more boost pressure, without any regard to adding more fuel or making adjustments to the tune. Even in that case the old 5.3 was a trooper because it made 3 full 1/4 mile passes before it popped and the guy was running close to 1.5 bar @ 12.8-13.2 afr on 93 octane E10 using the same timing map I setup for the thing when it was hitting a boost peak of .6 bar.

I ended up finding someone mentioning 454 vortec head flow numbers, but it was only the intake at .550 lift, he said it was 246 cfm. I don't know how much different it would be at .500. 781 heads gain about 12 cfm from .500 to .550. I guess it depends on where the vortecs start falling off at. So maybe that puts them around 235 cfm at .500. That would be about 10 more than the peanut ports. Wish you still had those flow numbers richard😜 just teasing
