This looks exactly like the rice and peas we make in Cabo Verde, Africa. This just further confirms that we are all one people, separated only by the destination of the ship our ancestors were aboard.
@r4nd4ll444 жыл бұрын
🇸🇷It’s amazing to see our ancestors’ influence on our cooking. Many carribean, african and south american are similar because of that. My country also has a similar dish to pelau, but ours is called moksi alesi. We also use de peas, peppers, cocunut milk and of course a bouillon to cook the rice in but have some different ingredients mixed in it. We use, for instance dried fish or smoked chicken and other vegetables. We like some marinated chicken out of the oven and plantains with it (and maybe a salad)🇸🇷

Jamaicans sometimes call that seasoned rice/all in one
@lifechoices47495 жыл бұрын
It's not the same. Jamaicans don't brown the sugar and ads all the ingredients. Theirs come out white, other Caribbean people own com out brown. Most Jamaicans have never even heard about pelau.

@@lifechoices4749 True, we usually only Brown the sugar when making stew chicken and oxtails etc.. not when making like a seasoned rice. We don't make pelau
@gettygets8724 жыл бұрын
Life Choices , yes you’re right. We don’t cook pelau. Generally speaking Jamaicans don’t use sugar in our food. It’s the sugar that contributes to the darkness of the pelau. Jamaicans make “all in one” with many things: ackee, shrimp, callaloo, mackerel, saltfish etc. etc. but it’s not a staple. It’s one of those things we cook when we’re tired and can’t be bothered to cook anything big. Or when there’s not much food left in the kitchen and we do a quick one pot meal.
