Jere - very well done, indeed! I especially like the way you use spacers (and wedges) to get the alignment on the parts for tack welding. Clever, and effective!

Thanks Ron. That's why I keep that tray of assorted pieces of on my welding table. Flat stock, bar stock, and tubing. There is enough to make up any combination of height or spacing without leaving the table. Jere

Jere I sure do like and appreciate your videos. You have a special knack of explaining things and showing how they are done. And I agree with you these pliers are the most useful of the 5 you showed previously. But they all have their place, for sure. For me, somehow it is very rewarding to make a tool. For some reason more rewarding then doing the regular jobs. Thank you for the video.

Glenn. I was told a long time ago that "the sign of a true craftsman is one who makes his own tools. Sometimes it takes longer to make a tool than it does to do the repair. The tool is yours forever, the repair leaves the shop. Thanks for your comment. Jere

Albert. I made them originally for holding a slitting chisel for a railing I was making. Lots of slit and drift next to yellow hot material required a bit of distance. They are great under a treadle hammer also. Thanks. Jere

Hi Jere, So whenever I have something happen that wasn't planned I can call it a "feature"? SWEET! Now you need to plate the new ones so they don't rust. ;) Have a good weekend, Joe

Morning Joe.........See what I did there. You may also use "it was an alteration of design". I'm sure you can come up with something other than it was a mistake. I am moving a lot of stuff from my shipping area (having sold my blacksmithing business) to the shed I put up a while back. When complete I will have room to set up a permanent plating area. And yes you can believe they will be plated. Jere

Hi Jere, Mistake? RLE = Reiterative Learning Event. I just made that up and it sounds good. I think my work is done for the day. Oooo even more room. You are going to have a lot of space to fill up with new "stuff". I was pretty certain plating would occur. ;) Have a great day, joe

In manufacturing, any chamfer/fillet/radius/etc is either an extra or missing feature when conducting first article inspection.. QA loves it when you have extra features not on the print.

I've taken to welding or brazing (whatever tool I'm using or nearest to at the time) side handles at various angles to punches and chisels. They take up little space making them idea for salvage yard use shearing chassis mount rivets etc.

I was just about to make some out of the pair I found around the time of the other video. Good thing I didn't yet.. they are straight jaws. Any thoughts on this acid strip you mentioned vs 309 through the "chrome" plating?

Hi Mr Wolf. The straight jaws will work just fine. I like the curved jaws when used as intended. Any method of removing the plating is fine. I think I removed it on the originals by sanding. Thanks for watching and your other comments in this thread. Jere

Muratic acid will remove the plating. Be very careful. Besides keeping it off your skin (and anything else you like), don't breathe the fumes.

Surprisingly, your dad hit the end of his chisel successfully. You must not have paid attention when the man explained they were for working with yellow steel. As in 2000F. How close do YOU get your hands to objects that are 2000F? A smart person gets only as close as required to get the job done.

@@mordantly so you dont work with steel then ,,,, when you do , feel free to comment , todays tip buy a longer chisel , most of mine are about 10 inches and I can comfortably cold chisel white hot steel , should I need to , but with a cordless grinder its a rare event these days , its slow and inaccurate . hth
