Hi how many pounds of corned beef was that? It looked like flat cut, maybe 2-3 pounds. I have a point cut 4 pounds...wondering about cooking time
@TamaraInTanzania2 жыл бұрын
I make mine slow roasted in the oven ..but it took me years to figure out why mine didn't taste like when my mom made it when I was a kid. I was using the flat cut and my mom used the point which gives different texture and flavor

How was the shopping experience? Were people kind? Were they stressed? Were you able to get everything you needed? How was the toilet paper situation? We’ve been self isolating, so I have many questions!
@Ktd10134 жыл бұрын
Aldi Mamma it was better than I had anticipated, but definitely not fun. I haven’t been shopping since last Monday, and things in NJ are leaning towards a shut down, so I really needed to stock up on everything. For the most part people were nice, but no one else seemed to be doing a huge shopping trip like I was, which I thought was odd. One lady made a snarky comment about how much I was buying 🤷🏻♀️ but she was literally wearing gloves lol so I don’t know why she thought I was crazy. And the cashier seemed to be in a not very good mood, but I think she is one of the store managers so I totally get it. They were totally out of all bread, toilet paper, sugar, tortillas, and dry rice and canned/dry beans, which were the 2 things I wanted. They had some next door at big lots (which was shockingly well stocked!) so I did go home with them. All in all, Aldi saved the day yet again!

I make a bouquet garni with the pickling spice, putting it in a piece of cheesecloth and tying closed with butcher's twine, and place in the cooking liquid. You get the same great flavor but it's less messy and cleanup is a lot easier. Sometimes I add more of the crushed red pepper flakes to the spice mix to get a bit more zing to the corned beef.

When the time's up for the brisket in the Instant Pot, open the lid and place a vegetable steamer tray on top of the brisket and load it up with cabbage. Close the lid and cook for four minutes on high. Open the lid, put the cabbage in a serving bowl and load up the steamer tray with diced potatoes, sliced carrots, sliced onion and celery. Cook for five minutes and remove the veggies and brisket. Eat till you can't take a deep breath. OH! DO NOT FORGET TO MAKE A PAN OF CORNBREAD. Serve with lots of iced tea.

No need to. The juices have the spices in it. It's soaked first and you take out the brine it was soaked in and make the meat less favorable ( germs would be in the meat, but the brine originally to keep the meat longer and keep germs away). Cooking the meat at high Temps kills any germs.

2 things about this video. The first thing is that as a corned beef freak I really believe that Aldi Kerris one of the best corned beef briskets pants down! The second thing is that this woman has the right idea when it comes to how much water or liquid that you want to use. Show many people drown their corned beef in too much water which dilutes the flavor of the corned beef. The only other thing that is worse than that are the stupid people that wash their corned beef before cooking it. I like to steam my vegetables separately and use the liquid from the cooked corned beef to baste the vegetables after they're done cooking and right before serving. That way everything doesn't taste the same

If you don't want to ruin ur St. Patty's Day, then DONT purchase Aldi's Cattleman's Ranch Corned Beef. Was supposed to come with spice packet. It did NOT ! Took me an hour to Google the spices for any corned beef brisket, dig them out, crush them then wrap in cheesecloth. And company is on the way. I need that wasted hour back! Also I see a lotta complaints that brisket shrunk after cooking. ANY brisket will drastically shrink. I use 2 to 3 pounder for two people. Purchase way more for larger crowd. I add about 7 pounds of veggies to cook in same pot : cabbage, potatoes, carrots & onions. Be patient. It takes 3 hours in a regular big stock pot🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

@@anointedcountrygirl All you are doing is rinsing the salt off the outside. The brisket has been in a salt/spice brine for a long time. It is soaked into the meat. You can not find a salt free spot in the meat. I throw the pickling spices away too.. A question for Aldi Momma, does anyone in your family have congestive heart failure? You keep cooking like that and they will! Try cooking a fully rinsed one in plain water no packet of spices and see there is not much, if any difference.

@@anointedcountrygirl I am glad you have no medical problems. It is not fun getting old and I am proof. I have had congestive heart failure. My Cholesterol is (as of last week) 105 mg/dL and has always been low. The cause of my heart failure was fluid retention. I have to keep my sodium levels down. If I don't, the edema is almost impossible to control. Again, try cooking one that has the salt brine rinsed off.
